Hi June,

We are not actually having two reunions it's just a weekend of activities. The actually "reunion party" is on Saturday but we have Jillians reserved for Friday night as an optional get together. We may also do something on Sunday during the day as an optional family picnic. I will announce that event soon!

Does anyone remember Mrs. Flemming from Gates Lane? I can still smell the scent of "Wind Song" as I think she poured the bottle on her every morning! And I believe she was ill as her stomach was very large and I doubt she was pregnant based on the fact she had to be at least 80 back then!!!!!! LOL

Does anyone recall being on the Gymnastics TEAM at Gates Lane? Yes I actually did gymnastics! Just the thought of attempting a cartwheel right now is exhausting!!

And I can't believe that Ms. Manning is still alive!!!! She has to be at least 110 by now!!!!!!

Looking forward to lots of laughs everyone!

"Your Wind Song stays on my mind!"

I was a big Love's Baby Soft fan myself!

Karen do you remember the Parker Stevenson and Shawn Cassidy (David's younger brother)posters that hung above your bed?

I still have a major crush on Keith Partridge...and have been known to break out the Best of the partridge Family (now available on CD!!!) every once in a while!

And...what about those Badmitton tournies we used to have in the driveway? 1---2---3---start over!

Was your old phone number (before 508) 799-7323??? I have that stuck in my head. Maybe it was engrained due to the rotary dial.

My aunt still lives at 12 Henshaw...and I'm reminded of my childhood every time I visit.

Hey Bets......"Babe, I'm leavin'...I must be on my way!"

My Freshmen year at South, was my first year in a public school. I went to Blessed Sacrement School on Park Ave, 1-2. Then to Worcester Central Catholic on main st, 3-8.

Going to South High was like someone opening the shades in a dark room.

Anyone else go to private school before South.

Donna-Marie Wheeler (Card)

Hi John,

Yup, Catholic school girl here. Went to Venerini Academy K-8th. What a culture shock going to public school after that. And I had no clothes, after wearing uniforms all those years. Although I will say I did have exersoles and chinos, and Levi's corduroys in many colors. (funny Betsy). I must say that to this day, I will NOT wear pleats or plaid!!

Where are you stationed? My dad is a retired LT from Greendale?

Hey Amy, they released the old Hardy Boys shows on DVD, maybe last year, my sister and I were cracking up when we saw that. You may want to check it out :)

Karen, come on, I'll spot you if you attempt a cartwheel!!!

Looking forward to the reunion.

Donna,

Yes, I do know your dad. When I got out of drill school he was the Lt. on engine 11. I was assigned to the ladder truck up thier. I worked with him for about 6 months. Please tell him I said hello.

I am stationed at south division. Near Coney Island Hot Dogs.

As for catholic school, I will never wear a pair of corduroys again.

Amy Favreault (Benoit)

Plaid? Pleats? Corduroys? And you guys are complaining (?)...I loved wearing all of those...and I never attended private school, although I would have been a good candidate.

Hardy Boys hmmmmm...maybe I'll check it out. Hahaha!

John Maloney a catholic school boy, I never would have guessed!

Hey Donna...my kids went to Venerini before we moved. Now they are at Saint Raphael's (in Raleigh). My son just started public high school and he loves it. I think he feels a lot like John did at South (although much worse as his school has 2400 kids).

02/24/09 01:41 PM #127

Donna-Marie Wheeler (Card)

Hey Betsy, usually no one has ever heard of Venerini. I can't belive Helen Taddeo and Sr. Pauline are still there, they were there when I went there. It was a great school when I went. My son goes to Our Lady of the Angels and seems to really like it, doesn't even mind having to go to mass :) He has Mrs. Hippert as his teacher, I heard she taught at Gates Lane? She's been teach K forever, but I really like her. 2400 kids, wow that a big school.

02/25/09 09:22 AM #128

Karen Ullstrom

OMG my daughter's kindergarten teacher at OLA was Mrs. Hippert, and I also had her at Gates Lane for kindergarten!!!!!!! Whats interesting is when I attended Open House at OLA with my daughter, Mrs. Hippert told me I look just like I did back then!!!!! What the heck is she smoking right? How can I possibly look like I did back then?

And as far as the cartweel - not gonna happen!!!! I would end up in cardiac arrest!

Some of you may already know, but Daryl Paine's brother Justin passes away recently. His obituary can be viewed at telegram.com. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers....

Eric Solomon (Salomonsson)

Donna!!

No W-A-Y!! Dan MacInnes and I had Ms. Hippert at Gates Lane for Kindergarten! It can't be the same teacher can it?? She left to have a baby and Mrs. Goodney replaced her. If it is her, that's amazing--I remember her well!! Doubt she'll remember me, but tell her best wishes from me! I can still remember the Halloween party she had for us kids--I went as Speed Racer!! Our K room was located on the first floor (under Mrs. O'Toole's room)
I also remember the first day we left Kindergarten and Dan and I had to take the bus home--it dropped us off at Apricot Street and we walked up Wildwood. I was terrified the bus driver didn't know where to go!WOW!! :-)

Karen, Thanks for mentioning Justin, I was coming on to do just that. A bunch of us remember the days playing ball with Justin and Zeno and Monk, all good times, all great guys. Please think of him in your prayers he was a close friend of mine.

Hi Everyone,

This site is great. I'm Excited about this reunion. Haven't been to one yet. My daughter will be graduating from south on June 1st.Kind of ironic huh? Didn't know alot of people during high school but this site certainly brought up long forgotten memories.

I think that Mike Hogan has passed away since H.S. but I don't know any dates or details.

Anyway can't wait for the big weekend.

Donna-Marie Wheeler (Card)

Hey Eric - Yeah, way! It's got to be the same Mrs. Hippert, she does have 6 children. I will tell her you said Hello. I'm sure there are students she remembers well and you are probably one of them :) I bet she'll be happy to know that you are a teacher too. OMG, and Speed Racer is popular again, how funny.

John, I told my Dad you said hello and he remembers who you are, he said you're a very nice boy :) He's been retired for about 12 years but he takes my son to the Christmas parties and gets to catch up with some of the old timers he worked with. Isn't Mike Coffee a firefighter too??

Hi Robin, remember 7th period Accounting class, senior year, was it Mr. Xenos?? Ughhh, that was brutal.

Finally getting a chance to type again, thank god. Well there are a lot of stories to go over. No one has even mentioned Ludlow Street school all Gates lane and I hear neither are not even there anymore. I can remember getting screamed at by so many teachers over so many situations I can't even find a place to start. How about Duffy's, Hot Dog Annies, The Liecester Drive in, The Indian Caves, Friendly's, Andrea's (Still the best grinder's in town), George's Pizza (Sully were you there when he chased us out with a knive becuase I yelled Malaka?) Webster Square - Arcades, Skating Rink, Burker King, Abdow's(Scabdow's)Big Boy, Spider Gates, Showcase Cinema ($1.75 matinee)Stop me anytime or Add in anything I miss- Coes Pond, The Rez, The Galleria, Plum's (Sully & Dan and Leno), Dunkin Donut's, Sneaking into Holy Cross Home Games, Getting hit by lightning with your friends in Hope Cemetery, Sneaking a tack on Ms. Manning' seat and she didn't even feel it when she sat down, Swimming at the pool next to Gate's lane in the summer and feeling big jumping off the high dive (I think it's Bennoit Field), Campus store, Spag's, Zayre's (I didn't steal the toy, sir), Running for my life from the rectory at OLA from CCD class by everyone carrying pitchforks and torches (what did I even say?), Bumperin behind a bus, Skateboarding down Deadhorse hill, Walkin the tracks, The Hurdy Gurdy, hangin on the wall at the Packy trying to get someone to buy for us and finally having some of the best times in my life with some of the best people I will have ever met in my life, Thank you everyone!!! Start posting more stories so I can get started on the book... Sully what was the name of store we hung out at across from The Hurdy Gurdy on Main Street?

By the way, I'm sure everyone has a story about each place I've mentioned and I would love to hear them, so get posting...

03/14/09 09:33 AM #139

Amy Favreault (Benoit)

Steve...Did you mean Sol's...the pharmacy across from the Hurdy Gurdy?

New Ludlow School (the building) is still on site, but the school is out of commission. I teach in WPS system and they deemed the place a hazard. I toured the building (as a final goodbye) and there was mold in every room, all the glass cinder blocks were cracked and half standing...and the layout was just terrible. The rooms were soooo much tinier than I remembered. People said that for a school built in 1970...it should have been in better condition.
They've cleaned up the building (somewhat)and use it for another purpose now.
And...by the way, your old house is still aqua blue!
My parents are still on Bauer Street!
Perry's exists...
Miss Manning is alive!
So, is Mr. Quaglieri...
The rez is visible from the street...(bummer!)
And, kids aren't as fun, or clever these days, although they do dress more fashionably and have more gadgets!
Take Care!

I still remember the first time I ever saw you Rich! 5th grade Mr. Sullivan... no relation and you walked by the door in a pink shirt like Steve Martin doing King Tut!! Who would have guessed that thirty years later I would still consider more a brother than a friend! New Ludlow was an adventure all on it's own! Do you remember team tag and running through the woods, and I've never seen a human get as many bloody noses in my life! Amy, I couldn't agree with you more! We were very lucky to have grown up when and where we did! I feel bad for our kids that they will probably never enjoy the freedom that we had back then. I'm gonna go sit on the edge of my bed and cry now.... Oh and Rich, How did you get so funky...:)

03/16/09 03:12 PM #141

OMG.... remember at the beginning of Mr. Eddy's class:

"ATTENDANCE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Amy......

Are you interested in joining me for a tryout at the "Over 40 Next American Idol??????????" I've the Helen Reddy lyrics out now!!!!!! LOL

03/17/09 12:18 AM #143

Richard Pearson

Amy thank you so much for the 100 or so flash backs you just gave me of Bauer Street. Sol's of course Sol's!!!! And how could I ever forget about Papa Gino's is that oily mess still around? That's the first slice of pizza I will have when I get home, and a Fribble at Friendly's. Then to the hospital to have my arteries unclogged. Sounds like all the cool spots have faded away, damn it!!! I hope there wasn't mold inside the walls when we went to Ludlow, and to think they called it New Ludlow. I would hate to see the Old Ludlow...

Sully the funkiness comes from all that Roller disco in the 70's and the funniness comes from all the damn fun we had from growing up, I still don't want too...

See you this summer biatches... miss ya
I don't miss being a goalie with no pads, remember that Sully... lol - your turn...
