Kymery Ann Tyelyn-Carlson was born March 30, 1961 in Palmer, Alaska and she died in her home in Vancouver, Washington on January 3, 2019.
Kym graduated with honors from Eisenhower High School in Yakima, Washington and Summa Cum Laude from Portland State University. She received an Education degree from St. Martins Collage in Lacy, Washington, and a Master’s degree from Washington State University Vancouver.
Kym was the principal of Skyview High School and more recently as the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for the Vancouver Public Schools.
Kym’s passion has been education and she also enjoyed entertaining family and friends, contemporary music and (the family disease) interior decorating.
Kym is survived by her husband, Dr. Ronald Carlson; her children: Tyeson Smeback, Brooke Miller, Melissa Levine and Joe Carlson; her grandchildren: Jackson, Isabella, Mallory, Gwenne, Kashus, Oellis and Maven; her mother, Karen Y. Thompson Tye; her sisters: Krista Tye and Jillian Fox; her cousin, Jody ViDelco; plus many more friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and her father, Halford Jack Tye.
A memorial service and reception celebrating Kym’s life will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd, 805 SE Ellsworth Rd., Vancouver, WA 98664 at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019. Please wear a pop of color to honor Kym’s vibrant personality.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools at foundationforvps.org: a fund that offers basic need support to VPS students and families and educational grants to support student learning.
