In Memory

Sheila Berger

Sheila Berger

After graduating from Eisenhower, Sheila started an engineering degree at Whitman College in Walla Walla. She was half way through her 2nd year when she went home to be with her family at the semester break. Shortly after the holidays, she got sick. What was thought to be the flu was much, much more. She died on January 6, 1984 from TSS (toxic shock syndrome).

Sheila loved Walla Walla and was very happy at Whitman. For a summer job she learned to drive a pea combine. After all those hours at JoAnn Fabrics and the Dairy Queen, she finally got to work outdoors. She had a boyfriend named Chris Tobe and, as was her style, had the world by the tail.

Sheila is buried in Yakima. Anyone interested in visiting her grave can contact me for the location.

Sheila and I weren't close but that never stopped me from appreciating her positive outgoing attitude. Every room was brighter and more energized when she was around. The loss was not just ours but the world's as it would have been better with her in it.

Sheila was a beautiful person, and a great friend. I recall seeing her a few days before she died. I was floored when I learned she died so quickly.

She is still missed.
