Mr. Otis Daniel Johnson Obituary
Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mr. Otis Daniel Johnson of County Home Rd. Blanch, NC, who passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, in the Sovah Health Danville, Va.
Otis fondly known as “BizAnn” was born in Caswell County on May 9, 1944, to the late Louis H. and Lemma J. Fuller Johnson. He graduated from Caswell County High School.
He married the love of his life Shirley Ann Long Johnson on May 12, 1973, and to this union one daughter, Shinnette, was born.
He was a member of Burton Chapel and attended Sassafras Grove Baptist Church.
He retired from North Carolina Department of Corrections as Sargeant after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked for ten years at Fulton Funeral Home.
Otis loved to sing and during his earlier years he sang with the Foster Brothers, Sassafras Grove Young Adult Choir, and the Gospel Deliverers, among others. He was often compared to the late Sam Cooke of the Soul Stirrers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Herman, James, David, Joe-Lewis, Lonnie, and Rufus; and five sisters: Helen, Mildred, Queen, Mary Lemma, and Julia.
Otis leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Shirley of the home, daughter Shinnette and son-in-law, James of Durham; twin brother, Otha Dillard (Yvonne) of Washington, DC; three sisters-in-law, Emma Johnson of Florida, Virginia Johnson of Washington DC, and Wynolia Johnson of Blanch, NC; five brothers-in-law Ackery Foster of Blanch, NC, Charles “Mickey” Davis of Baltimore, MD, Gary Mitchell (Glenda) of Arlington, Texas, Greg Mitchell (Marilyn) of Chesterfield, VA, Billy Gunn of Washington, DC, one grandson, Brent of Durham, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Special friends, Wayman “Junior” Madden, Toni Madden, Quenton Walton, Ray Richmond, Graham, and Sara Broadwell.
A public viewing will be on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 3 pm to 7 pm in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
The funeral Service for Mr. Otis Daniel Johnson will be on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 1 pm at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church. Pastor Gary Williams will deliver the Words of Comfort.
Interment will follow in the Sassafras Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
