Went to Florida Southern College in Lakeland Fl on an Air Force Scholarship program, and ended up putting 12.5 years in the military. Great assignments: San Francisco, Honolulu, Orlando, to name a few. Went to half a dozen graduate schools working on a Masters in Education degree while in the military, including Georgia State University at Fort Benning right after leaving the Air Force, but finally landed at Florida Technological University in Orlando (now University of Central Florida, Go Knights!) I spent a very short time in the public school system before I realized my monetary income did not equal my cash outflow. At that point I obtained licenses in the real estate, mortgage, and securities industries, where prospects for income appeared to be a little brighter. I taught real estate and mortgage classes for several years and really enjoyed helping other practitioners get started in those businesses. I have been involved mainly in real estate development for the past 10 years but enjoy all facets of the real estate and mortgage businesses. My wife, Belinda, has her own company, Tropical Brace and Limb, specializing in orthotics and prosthetics, which she started up this last year. She spent the prior 20 years in the medical field working for a local doctor before she decided to go out on her own. The new company is doing great and she has been able to meet her business plan expectations. We have several grandchildren and get to visit with most of them quite frequently. One of them, Tyler Hamm, just spent 9 months living with us while our daughter and her husband were both overseas in Iraq. If you really want to have some fun in your old age, try taking care of a 16 month old for 9 months until they are well into their "terrible 2's". You will quickly find out that you are not 25 years old anymore. Anyway, it was fun, the kids returned safely from Iraq, and we have handed them back their bundle of joy (whew!). We love the central Florida area and have settled in Windermere, which is a surburban town in the Orlando metro area. All you tourists keep on coming down and buying Florida real estate!
3-30-09 Update! Daughter Stephanie has left the Air Force (6 years) and she is now staying with us while her husband (14 years in service) is leaving for a year tour in Afganistan. That means the aforementioned Tyler (now 3 years old) is back to stay with us also and Stephanie is pregnant and expecting in May. So we'll have a houseful for the next 12 months. I get to retire when I hit 76!

I lent Doyle Allison my white Easter jacket, without my parents permission, so he could wear it to the prom, and he fell in a muddy creek beside the road. When he returned it the color was mostly Georgia red clay. My Mom and Grandmother had a fit for weeks. My Dad didn't care as he thought white dress jackets were dopey looking. There's other stories but you can't throw them out in a public forum.
