The 50th Reunion was a Gas. Looking forward to 60.

What's new since the reunion?

Ran for Judge in Arizona as a Democrat in a Republican District. Lost. Moved to Las Cruces, NM in October, 2017 and quit practicing law. Became a real estate broker with Exit Horizons. Finally live in a great house that's mortgage free and drive a car that's paid for. Health is generally good. Doesn't get much better-----
The tree farm in Honduras is getting closer to start cutting trees.

Where else have you lived?

Chicago, 1968-77; Edinburgh(Scotland),1967-68; Durango+Pagosa Springs(Colorado), 1978-2008; Costa Rica, 2008-09; Sequim(WA), 2009-2012; Tucson, AZ 2012-2017; presently living in Las Cruces, New Mexico, 2021-Sequim, WA

Your life to date:

I attended U. of Colorado freshman year on a track scholarship then transferred to Knox College majoring in Pol.Sci. and graduated in '67. Attended U. of Edinburgh '67-'68 on a full-ride scholarship and studied Int. Law while playing all the great Scottish Golf courses. Returned to start Northwestern Law School, graduating in 1971, but before that worked as a security guard at the Chicago Democratic Convention.
Worked as a prosecutor in Cook County for 3 1/2 years, private practice for 2 years, then blew outta town and settled in Durango, CO (and later Pagosa Springs) where I enjoyed a successful and rewarding private practice for 27 years after first doing 2 more year years as a deputy district attorney. I handled all manner of plaintiff's trial work and criminal defense. I had one child, Luke, who is absolutely fabulous--summa cum laud from Penn, and an NSF scholarship to work on his doctorate in Mayan archaeology. Also plays a wicked lead guitar! I was married once at 50 and it lasted 16 months. In 2003 I met Belinda, and we have been together ever since. In 2007 the stars all lined up and said, "Get out of town. Retire to Costa Rica and play golf forever". So we did. Bought a house, joined a country club and got married. It lasted about 1 1/2 years, and we were driven home by several factors, mostly B's health, and my not liking retirement. Retirement--and Costa Rica--are not for everyone.
We came back to be near family in the Pacific NW, and after a small apartment in Port Townsend, WA we moved to Sequim, WA and I opened a solo law office in Port Angeles. Did all right, too. But the gloomy weather got to be too much for us, and B's health wasn't doing well in the cold, damp, clammy weather of the NW so we got our house sold at a substantial loss and moved to Tucson, AZ where the warm dry climate is more to our liking. I play golf whenever I can (though never enough!) and have gotten admitted to the AZ Bar. I am taking only criminal cases by court appointment and referral for now, but things are picking up well.
While all that has been going on I was active in Rotary for 16 years (1991-2007) in Pagosa Springs, CO and made relief trips to Moscow right after the fall of the USSR in 1992, and 2 trips to an orphanage in the boon-docks of Honduras, both by myself and both helping our club win Outstanding Club in District awads.
The exposure to Honduras was wonderful, and since a friend of mine's brother had some tree farms down there, I sorta piggy-backed on his knowledge and helpfulness, buying 60 manzanas(110 acres) and having seeds planted in bags, then growing to 3 ft. saplings, and eventually planted. Today there are 20,000 mahogany, teak and rosita trees, waiting to begin the first thinning next year, which will start to produce some income. The farm is in the middle of beautiful nowhere, and my Honduran corporation owns a farm that is fully certified. Trees can be cut tax free!
Besides these things, I've soloed in small planes; run in the Boston Marathon; played golf in Hawaii, North Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, the Bahamas, Australia and all over Scotland; skied in Austria and all over Colorado; sailed up the east coast of Australia, then fished and snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef; traveled extensively through Mexico and Latin America; actively worked in a British election; climbed 14,000 ft. mountains in Colorado, and had the great privilege of rubbing elbows with the finest people in the world.
The bucket list is hard to imagine, but I'd still like to spend some time in India, China and the Kashmir.

Words of Wisdom:

In the immortal words of Tom Lehrer, "Life is like a sewer---what you get out of it depends on what you put into it." Also,

All my professional life I've told people I practice Leprechaun Law, i.e., I represent the little people. I've found that the richest people are the stuffiest, most self-important elitists on the planet, while the more middle-class (and lower) are the warmest, most giving of them selves. Seek, and serve, the Little People.

Happy birthday (a little in advance) Greg. I applaud your interest in Foreign Affairs as I ,too, maintain a strong following in that subject. I am just now beginning my thrid career as a lawyer, having recently become licensed in AZ again. Being as we are old farts of 78 I've decided to play more golf and just take court-appointed cases for misdemeanor miscreants. The serious stuff is (likely) behind me.
I don't run anymore, given I have developed a bad case of reflux (veinous insufficiency) in both legs, Golf is as good as it gets.
Stay well, amigo. I can best be reached at rkauld08@gmail.com. Later!

Hey Chuck,
Or is it Charles these daysa? I want to get it right.
Back in 2007 my then-girl-friend Belinda and I retired to Costa Rica and bought a house first in Ciudad Colon with a kliller view, then sold that and moved closed to Cariari Country Club. But alas, Costa Rica and retirement are not for everyone, so we moved back to the good ole USA where I continued my law career in Washington State, then Arizona. I'm now in WA again for B's health--she has congestive heart failure, and got a pacemaker implant. We also had to move down from Las Cruces, NM and its 4,284 ft above sea lever to Sequim, WA again where we are prresently. In October we are moving again back to the Tucson, area, and are probably through moving for good.
I have been an ardent golfer (see my profile) and am active in Rotary.
We spent some time in Arenal, and loved the area. If we ever decided to return to Latin America that is probably where we would go. Just watch out for the venomous snakes.
Hope you are enjoying good health. On a sad note I trust you noticed my post about Jim Tindall, who we both knew pretty well. He took his own life last November
Take care. Hit 'em long and straight.

Hey Ray, Happy Birthday. I hope you're in the same state of decent health and activity I am. I play golf two or three times a week, and am active with the local Rotary Club. My wife and I have a home in Green Valley, AZ (October through April) and return to Sequim, WA May through September. Stay well, old timer! Robin

Happy birthday, Bill. It was nice connecting with you at the 50th---wish we had more time. I hope you're in good health, and everything is coming up roses. Retired, no doubt?
I retired years ago from practicing law and became a real estate broker in NM at my wife's suggestion. Didn't work out as well as I wanted, and her health got bad--congestive heart failrure on top of a degenerative spinal problem. We are now back to sea level in Sequim, WA and I would have to take a bar exam and start from scratch, for which I have no appetite. So it's golf, and yardwork and the Rotary Club which I am actively involved in.
I haven't heard anything about a 60th reunion, but I'd go if thgey had one. Would you?
Take care. Stay well.

Hey Steve,
Hope this finds you healthy, as am I. My wife and I moved back to the Pacific Northwest last year (Sequim, WA) for her health reasons, so it's back to sea-level, and a shorter golf game. I got used to hitting the ball a long way at higher altitude. That means I'm up the coast from you a ways, but would love to find a way to get together if I'm ever down your way, or you head towards Seattle...Stay well, and many more hereafter.

Happy birthday you old Goat! I had a Porsche 911 once, too, but wisely sold it before it killed me or put me in the poor house, so in spite of a Life of Death defying behavior, congratulations on making it to 77. It would be a good time to go to Vegas on that number!
Stay well. Robin

Happy Birthday, Nancy!
Despair not. Think of this as the 38th anniversary of your 39th birthday. See you at the 60th--if there is one!
