My memory of Louis was as a guy who pretty much marched to the beat of his own drummer in an era where conformatiy was everything. Good guy, as I remember him.
Louie's path used to cross mine periodically from about the forth grade through the end of high school. The kids in our neighborhood which was the area around Ralston between Old County Road and the freeway all called him Louie or Mickey. Mickey is what his parents called him.
He used to claim that he was descended from German aristocracy and that his legal name was something like "Baron Louis Dritte Von Schwanenflugel III".
I remember his folks bought him a brand new motor scooter when he was about twelve years old. He would occasionally ride it around when his folks were away and hope the cops didn't catch him or the neighbors wouldn't rat him out. No doubt there was some jealousy amongst the kids because of that.
The last time I saw him was when I visited him in Santa Cruz where he was batching it in a small rental unit near the amusement park and working as a fork lift driver.

I went to a prom with him. It may have been the junior.
I didn't know him when he invited me and didn't know him
any better afterwards. It feels odd and kind of sad.
I can see from the 68 year old vantage point however
the truth of why he chose to invite me. I also walked
to the drum beat of my own drummer.
