It was good seeing so many folks at the 40th and 51st Class Reunion! Some of the folks there I had not seen since we graduated from AHS! From time to time I have seen some of the AHS folks at the summer Friday's After Five concert series in Charlottesville.
During my time at AHS, I lived in the North Garden area of Albemarle County. After graduating from AHS in 1971, I was a residential builder/contractor in the Charlottesville area for a period of time and also did automotive restoration before graduating from college in 1984. From there, I worked at the Charlottesville GE division doing circuit diagnostics and design failure analysis for CNC and PLC industrial automation systems for about 4 years. After leaving GE, I ended up working for IBM in various locations for 20 some years designing automated manufacturing systems, facilities chemical delivery systems and environmental abatement systems for IBM's various semi-conductor manufacturing facilities. There was a period mixed in there with IBM working as a Program Management on various DOD projects for the Department of the Navy with active sonar, but mostly passive sonar systems. In part because of the nature of some of the work I did with IBM, I still do Patent and Patent Application related research and classification projects for the United States Patent and Trademark Office and for some private clients from time to time.
After AHS and while with IBM, I lived in northern Virginia, then 14 years in Vermont, with periods of time spent in Bromont, Canada, East Fishkill, New York and Austin, Texas. I moved back to Virginia in late December of 2006.
It has been an interesting journey...
I have two grown children. My daughter Alyse is a large animal Veterinarian and my son Ryan is working in the music industry, doing session recording and is Administrative Director for The Recording Conservatory of Austin.
I am retired at this point!!! Thank you Jesus! Best job I have ever had!!!
At the time this is being written, I am living in the home I built in Nelson County, Virginia. As time permits in retirement I returned some of my many hobbies...auto repair and restoration projects(mostly German cars), building custom firearms(I love building extremely accurate 1911's and accurate rifles), audio electronics related design and build projects, etc...
In passing, we have lost a number of class members over the years. If anyone has details on any of those folks, please forward that to me, Karen Viar or Luci Craig (Kent) or post and add any details that you have in the "In Memory" section of the site.
I have included my contact information, email, phone number below, and would love to hear from folks.
I would also encourage everyone to add detail to you profiles. Tell your story...what you have done and been through, what you are doing now, and are perhaps hoping to do someday.
Respectfully,
Sean (Samuel) Holt Henderson, Class of 1971
