In Memory

Randy Shivers

Randy died unexpectedly while at work in 1978.  The cause of death was a heriditary heart condition, which was previously not known to exist in their family.  You may remember Randy's brother, Steve, who survived until 1984 when he too died unexpectedly of the same heart condition.

I didn't really know you, Randy, but I wish I had. Rest in peace, brother.

I knew both Randy and Steve well. I never realized he lived in my same neighborhood until I saw him one day riding his bicycle on my road.......he only lived about 2 minutes away! Randy was a fun loving and definitely free spirited kinda fella. His death I remember was a real shock to a lot of us........as was Steve's just 6 years later. God rest their souls.

My best memories of Steve & Randy were, Brighton Green Swimming Pool. They were so much fun. I really had great memories with the Brighton Green crew.

I remember Randy quite well. I was so shy in high school and we had a trip to Washington DC and Randy told me to come and sit with him and I did. He made me laugh and he was so kind.

I remember I was so looking forward to going back to school that next week to see my new friend as he really made me feel like I belonged. He died that weekend and I never saw him again.

I will always remember how kind he was to me and how funny a guy he was. It was a tragic loss.

Randy was my middle school and first boyfriend. We had a lot of fun. I remember my mother fixing him huge bowls of ice cream every Saturday morning. He was a kind and wonderful boy and I'm so sorry he and Steve neither one are still around. I also remember a wonderful story in the paper years after both brothers were gone, where their parents rescued one of their horses from a frozen pond. Neither wanted to see anymore tragedy for a long time, and used heroic measures to save their horse.

Rest in peace Randy and Steve.
