DONALD WAYMAN OBITUARY

Daily Herald Feb. 19, 2023.

Donald Lowell Wayman was born July 31, 1942, in Chicago, along with his twin sister, Diane, to Lowell R. Wayman and Dorothy Emma Francke Wayman. He grew up in the Edgebrook area and attended Carl Schulz High School where he was on the basketball team, ran cross- country, sang in multiple choirs and played in the band

Music was instrumental in his life from early on and his first of many solos was in Edgebrook Lutheran Church when he was 8 years old. He was an active Boy Scout working hard to earn the rank of Life Scout. Don attended Bradley University studying engineering and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity where he met lifelong friends. At Bradley he directed the SN chorus to a first place win but he especially talked about singing in the SN trio which was invited to compete in a well known radio amateur show. He completed his studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a Professional Engineer in Chicago for a short time before he was convinced to try his hand in ventilation equipment sales to contractors.

Anyone knowing Don, knows his personality was meant for sales! He worked for VESCO, Inc. in Elmhurst, IL for many years. He and a business partner eventually purchased the company which they had until he retired. In 1974, Don went on a ski trip to Aspen, Colorado and "by chance" met Jan King from Georgia. After a year's courtship, they married and moved to Medinah, IL. Their children, Emily and Drew have been the joy of Don's life. He rarely missed a sporting event, concert, play or anything involving them. He was the best dad anyone could ask for, a great father in law to Rachael and Jeff, and the most loving Papa to his grandchildren.

Don's greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends. He was always planning the next adventure, whether it was skiing in Colorado, time at the lake house, or vacationing in a warm location, of most importance was who would be with us. He was truly a family man and a great friend. He was a man of faith and was never hesitant to let that be known about him. His love and infectious joy and enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob. He is survived by his wife, Jan; his children, Emily (Jeff Gibbons) and Drew (Rachael); his grandchildren, Caroline, Aidan, Brendan, Jillian, Carter and Malaina; and his sister, Diane. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, IL on Monday, March 6, 2023. Visitation is from 9 to 11 am, with the service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the music ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, IL or to the charity of your choice.

Our prayers are with the Wayman family on Don's passing.

I remember what a fun loving guy Don was at Schurz.

It sounds as though he led a productive and blessed life. My sympathies go out to all his family.  Our dwindling Schurz family is once more diminished.

A nice memory of Don and many Schurz classmates in French Lick 2015.
