After graduating from Schurz, I attended Northern Illinois Univ. for two years, then transferred to the Univ. of Ill. at Champaign where I received my B.S. in English. I taught English at Harrison High School in Chicago for ten years. During this time I travelled to Europe with fellow teachers every summer. I also attended DePaul Univ. and earned my M.A. in English.
When my two children were born I quit working full time to raise them, to become involved in community groups, and to volunteer for their schools and local organizations. I eventually joined the faculty of Maine East High School as a teaching assistant for the Academy program which serves below average freshmen. I stayed at Maine East for fifteen years.
Toward the end of those years, my husband Curtis, a retired Motorola electrical engineer, purchased a sailboat and we enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan during the summers. In shifts, we have sailed and motored the boat down the Mississippi and around the country to the Chesapeake Bay where it is now docked. We go out there for shorts trips to Wash. D.C., the Hudson River, and Norfolk, Va.
My son has a degree in marketing and has been working as a computer trainer. He is married and lives in Arlington Heights. My daughter earned dual degrees in Biology and Environmental Science. She lives in Bartlett, Il. and has given us two terrific grandchildren, Emily - 4 yrs. and James - 2 yrs. We love spending time with them!

It sounds as though he led a productive and blessed life. My sympathies go out to all his family.  Our dwindling Schurz family is once more diminished.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news.  Judy and Joyce added so much to our Schurz class.  My sincere sympathies to Joyce's family.  I know she will be greatly missed.  So depressing to see our group lose another member.  She lead a wonderful life.
