Although I am currently retired, I keep very active with a wide range of interests.

I am a volunteer usher with the Saints organization--it's a wonderful opportunity to take in theater, music, and dance.

I am also a volunteer with a Cat Adoption Center called Paws and Claws, located only two blocks from where I live.

And I'm a member of a Scrabble Meetup group. I simply love that game. In fact, I love all word games.

In addition, I just joined a Writing group called JUST WRITE CHICAGO.

I plan to return to auditions in the fall of 2023, as I have had the good fortune to take on many plum acting and singing roles over the years. The STAGE ITCH has come back.

I am also returning to Senior Connections, an organization where they link you up with a senior who you visit once a week.

School Story

I'm so glad that I went to E.T.H.S. It was wonderful for me. I was in debate, and participated in Ya mo for two years, and appeared in a production of the musical ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, and CAMELOT. I was also in the play THE DEATH AND LIFE OF SNEAKY FITCH, and MY SISTER EILEEN. And I really enjoyed being a part of an Oral Interpretation Showcase, presented in the observatory. I simply LOVE poetry.

I attended the University of Iowa, where I was an English major, and graduated in 1975. I had so many marvelous professors in one of the top ranked English Departments in the country. And I played the part of Mendel, the Rabbi's son, in a production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, during the first semester of my Senior year.

Following Iowa, I did some graduate work in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations, at Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, IL.

And at age 37, I embarked on a teacher certification program at Northeastern Illinois University, in Chicago--for Secondary Education/English.

After completing that rigorous program, I did a lot of substitute teaching, but was never able to find a full-time teaching position in my field. However, I had so many wonderful subbing experiences at Niles North High School, Niles West High School, Maine East High School, Maine West High School, Lincoln Park High School, Lincoln Jr. High in Park Ridge, the Chicago City Day School, in Chicago, and was a permanent Sub for a period of a year, at Warren Township High School, in Gurnee, IL.

Hi Nancy! I am happy to wish you a very happy birthday, and many more. I remember our days together in Mr. Esty's
class at Oakton School. How lucky we were to have such a wonderful teacher, and right out of harvard, to boot.

Stephen died way too young.  He was a great guy. We used to toss around a football in Ben Wolf's backyard on Oakton, in Evanston.  We called him Shapes. One night I went Downtown Chicago with Steve and Ben Wolf. We saw the movie version of the stage show "Camelot"  We sat in the balconly, and really enjoyed this movie, full of wonderful Lerner & Loewe tunes, great cinematography, and lots of pageantry.

I remember Harry--he was a super-talented dancer, and a very nice individual.  I remember how he danced in a summer production of the musical OKLAHOMA!, and how wowed them with his dancing in YAMO.  He was also a very talented gymnast.  Taken way too soon. R.I.P. Harry.

I remember you well, dear Chuck.  You were in my Honors English classes, and on the debate team.  I met your sister-in-law, Wendy Griffin when I embarked on a 3-year teacher certification program, at Northeastern Illinois University.  You had so much going for you.  How sad that you were taken way too soon.  Michael Dorn

Patty, i remember meeting you in Mrs. Bauer's Oral Interp. class.  You were so smart and so full of LIFE.  And I remember our going to a production of the musical "Promises, Promises", at the Shubert Theatre, Downtown Chicago.  I also remember going to that very good Italian restaurant with you--Villa Gergenti, on Paulina, in Chgo. News of your passing really affected me, as we had become good friends with a good deal in common.  You were taken way too soon.  May you rest in   peace, dearest Pat.  Michael Dorn--E.T.H.S. class of 1971.
