Richard Schmerber

Richard Schmerber

Latest from Cindi: 12-13-17

We have received word that Richard's body has been accepted into the donor program. It was his wish that medical science use it to learn and, hopefully, prevent anyone else from having to go through what he did for these last years.

The arrangements for his services are as follows:

There will be a Memorial Visitation at Rosewood Funeral Home, 17404 West Lake Houston Parkway, Humble TX 77346, on Friday evening @ 7:00 p.m.

There will be a Memorial Mass @ 10:00 Saturday morning at our church, St. Martha's Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, Tx 77365.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that a donation be made to CanCare, Inc. 9575 Katy Fwy., #428, Houston, TX 77024.

From Cindi:

Just a quick update about Richard's services. The details are still being worked out.
Richard chose to donate his body to science in the hopes that something could be learned and then maybe no one else would have to go through everything he did. This complicates the timeline.

However, we can say this much: there will be a Memorial/Visitation in Friday evening, Dec. 15, from 7:00-8:00, @ Rosewood Funeral Home, 17404 West Lake Houston Parkway, Humble, TX 77346. Then there will be a Mass on Saturday morning @ 10:00 a.m. at our church, St. Martha's Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter TX 77365.

Donations to CanCare, Inc. 9575 Katy Freeway #428, Houston TX 77204, may be made in lieu of flowers.

As things are finalized, his obituary will be placed in papers; however I can't do that until theses details are worked out.

Richard and I spent four years together in Mechanical Engineering School after BHS. I had more fun with him and learned more from him than I could have ever imagined.  He was a spectacular guy!!!!  We have lost a good man.  JRM

I feel so blessed that Richard was well enough to drive himself to Surfside in September for my birthday party. We had a great visit with lifelong friends reminiscing. Richard, you will be deeply & sincerely missed🌹

Richard and I carpooled for a brief period in the early days of our Dow Chemical careers.  I will never forget the beer (Not sure but I think it was Pearl) and Snickers bar that he had every day on the way home from work.  Richard was a great guy.

I thought of Richard on December 4th (his birthday) which was one day before mine....in years past we would always talk on our birthdays & even got together with Mike Cooper a few years ago to have dinner!  Richard was always the most optimistic, funny and caring person....he was just a great guy & will be missed!  Our thoughts are with his family that I know he adored.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear about Richard’s passing. He was a great friend with tremendous wit at BHS. I remember being with him the night we beat Galveston Ball High our sr year. He got mugged and broke his glasses trying to protect one of our classmates (I think Ginger Wroth) who had been pulled by her hair to the ground. Richard took a beating before the cops showed up. We laughed about it years later but that night he was our hero and took one for the team. Prayers to the family. We miss Richard but are thankful he’s moved on to a better place.

So very sad to hear of Richard’s passing. Such a good man. He’s been fighting a hard battle for a long time.  Now he can rest. Prayers for comfort for his family, especially Cindi, who fought the battle right along side him. God bless them.

Richard was SUCH a great guy. Bobby Arrington, I was definitely pulled to the ground by my hair at the Ball High game. I was so panicked that I don't know if anyone else was also on the ground. I am amazed that you remember it was me. And EXTREMELY touched that Richard was trying to help me. I have no memory of that. Many years later I had a good long chat with him and Cindy at Danny Rhodes funeral, and Richard never said a word about that game. Prayers for comfort for Richard's family.
