JCMU Story:

I went to JCMU in the fall of 2008. When I first applied, I had been encouraged to apply for a full year. However, after applying it became apparent that the costs were too much. After changing my application to one semester, I was contacted by the people at EMU who coordinate the program. They asked me why I changed my status and I had to tell them that I just couldn't afford it. To my surprise, the next week I got a phone call saying that someone had applied for me and I had been granted a scholarship to attend JCMU. The money was more than enough for me to stay the full year. I was ecstatic, completely touched by the kindness of the people in that office, who, without knowing me, went out of their way to help me have the experience of a lifetime. Even though I only stayed for one semester (I tested into 4th year and couldn't find a new school quick enough), I will never forget their kindness.
In addition, I was allowed to stay with a host family during my semester abroad. The family took me in and made me one of their own, providing me with a wonderful place to stay, warm home cooked meals, and excellent company. They treated me to many cultural outings, including a trip to an old castle, as well as the temple where my host grandfather was born.
As if this wasn't enough, I also had the opportunity to make many wonderful friends, some of whom I still keep in touch with today. In fact, I have been accepted into the JET program this year and am looking forward to being able to visit some of my friends in Japan. Needless to say, I was blessed with a wonderful experience and I sincerely hope that many others have the opportunity to attend JCMU and explore Japan.
