Jay Alan Nankivell

APRIL 4, 1946 - NOVEMBER 22, 2018

Jay Alan Nankivell, Age 72, of League City, Texas and Burnsville, MN, went to be with his Lord on November 22, 2018, when he passed away peacefully and unexpectedly. Preceded in death by father James Nankivell, mother Audrey Nankivell, wife Janet Nankivell, and wife Barb Nankivell.

Survived by sons James (Sara) Nankivell and Brad (Pen) Leff, daughters Pamela (Vince) Ross and Kristina (Jose) Longoria, grandchildren David Ross, Makala Ross, Christopher (Jordan) De Gidio, Alex Leff, Dillon Leff, Jonathan (Jessica) Longoria, Chris (Sabrina) Longoria, great-grandchildren Maya, Melina, Henry and Emmet, sisters Lori (Bert Campbell) Matthews, Sally Nankivell and Sue Nankivell, brothers and sisters in law, and many nieces and nephews.

Jay, AKA Jay Bird, Albino Rhino, Tank, Big Bird, Santa, and The Mayor, loved and was loved by many. He graduated from Hopkins High School and enjoyed planning many reunions over the years.

With transportation in his veins, particularly aviation, Jay earned his private pilot’s license at an early age. He went on to a long career with the Federal Aviation Administration, where he worked in the Farmington, MN Air Traffic Control Center for many years.

Jay was a fixture in local Minnesota parades as cart commander with the Zuhrah Shrine Flyers, raising funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. He enjoyed dining out with family and friends, hosting visiting family and friends in TX, bingo outings to the American Legion, time spent at Rainy Lake, and was a loyal, long-suffering Vikings fan.

Jay’s family and friends remember him as one of the good guys, a kind and caring man with a heart of gold – the highest of honors. He was known for being a calm, strong and steady support to others; whenever he was needed, he was gladly there. He will be greatly missed.
