Hello Barb,

Thank you very much for posting the information regarding Sandy Oie's service/memorial information.

I greatly appreciate knowing more than the fact that she has passed on.  It is always with a heavy heart to read these notifications that come forward.  There have been so many in the past couple months, I understand there are more sources being used to track the classmates that are no longer with us.

Gratefully yours,

Karen Devitt Sherwood

Michael,

Giant work by many, if I understand it.

Believing the list of 165 names is for the D(eceased), then consider adding the names of three of my friends and classmates:  David Lee, Terry Jacobsen and Ed Ruotsinoja.  Kinda surprised you'd miss Jake, given his early involvement with reunions...

Thanks, Miles

I second Miles.  Amazing how just the mention of a name triggers so many memories.  I'm grateful for the fleeting memories of faces who meant so much back in the day.  So thank you for all the actuarial work.

Great work on the military members.

Terry Jacobsen always told me he was in the Air Force, stationed at an Air Base in the eastern US.  Could verify with Marsha, as they were married at the time, I believe.

Thanks for the compilation.

Greg,  I too believe Terry Jacobson was in the Air Force.  He maay have been a PJ, pararescue in the Nam.  Also, I was surprised that Jay Nankevell wasn't on the list.  I believe he was active duty in the Air Force as an air traffic controller moving to the reserves after he began working for the FAA.  Think he retired from the Air Force reserves and the FAA.  Thanks for all your hard work.  Don Ramsey

60th HOPKINS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS REUNION

Date:        September 14th 2024

TIME:      1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Saturday

WHERE: THE ELKS CLUB

                 30 8th AVE., HOPKINS MN

Hello to all the classmates of the class of Hopkins High School 1964.

This is the “SURVIVOR REUNION”. We lasted over 77 years. We worked, played, invested, traveled and some grew a family with grandchildren. NOW is the time to re-unite with your classmates to tell a story or merely greet a friend from the past.

The Elks club is a great venue. They will provide banquet type food with an open “you pay” bar. All this is only $20 donation entry fee per person. Bring your spouse or your friend for $40.00. The committee wants as many as possible to attend this re-union event.

To cover some of the cost the “committee“ is asking for any who can/ is willing to add a donation up to but not to exceed $100.00. In-lieu of an entry donation payment.

HOW DO YOU PAY ? :

The “Committee” prefers you pay ASAP ahead of time. This is important so we have some idea how many will attend & how to order food/drinsk. Include in the memo: your name, home address, e-mail address & telephone number.

Check Payable to: HHS Class of 1964

A picture is worth a thousand words

If that picture photo is from the 1963-64 Hopkins High School class year, a thousand words would not be enough to describe the pleasure of seeing it.

When you come to the 60th reunion (you are coming, right?) in a private room at the Hopkins Elks Club on September 14th, bring any photos, posters, or memorabilia you may have of that time period that may evoke a memory. It doesn’t matter what it may be of. It could be a photo of:

A classmate

You and your boyfriend

You and your girlfriend

A teacher

Junior-Senior Prom pics

Senior Skip Day pics

Graduation train trip pics

Hopkins Raspberry Parade Pics

Your folks

Your siblings

Your car

Your house

Your dog, Spot

Your cat, Fluffy

A movie poster

A school poster

An old Hopkins business ad or poster.

What you ate (Oh, we didn’t do that back then)

Anything 1963-64 or 1961-68, or any year, who cares?

Bring any memory you like. There will be poster boards to pin your pics on. Guaranteed, they will draw a lot of attention and create a lot of conversation. If you absolutely, positively cannot attend, send a current photo of yourself, we’d love to see you.

If you have something better to do than going to the 60th reunion, September 14th this year, let me know, I may join you.

Be there or be square (remember that one?).

Remember: Phone numbers starting WEst-8...Gas at 25¢ a gallon...The Baldies...Milk Boxes

Pep Rallies…Alcott Drug…Larson Clothing…the arched wooden bridge on Shady Oak Rd  Jay’s Drive-in on Excelsior…Don Bently, HPD…Pizza Plaza…Hopkins Theater on 5th

THIS IS A LIST OF 10 "AUTHOR AND/OR PUBLISHER" FROM THE HOPKINS CLASS OF 1964.

IF THERE IS AN ERROR OR ADDITIONS YOU SEE, PLEASE NOTIFY ME ON A "DIRECT' MESSAGE" AND I WILL MAKE A CORRECTION. I welcome direct input from those listed below. (2/28/2024 19:25 hrs)

ADRIENNE MAYOR: I viewed one of several of her books at Barnes and Noble today. See: Google search for her complete and extensive books: antiquities. I spoke with Adrienne last week. She is well and still writing. Associated w/ Stanford University

KENT NERBURN:  Extensive publications. Also in collaboration with Mark Donicht

MIKE HOLMQUIST:Published poetry collection: ask Mike to share.

MARK DONICHT: Mark is involed with writing and publishing.

"I started my company, New World Library, the day I turned 30. I've written and published close to 20 books, mostly non-fiction and some poetry. And Kent Nerburn has published several books with us, maybe a dozen, and some other books with other publishers. Both of us have recently written our first novels, and will be publishing them soon — though Kent has a Native American trilogy we've published that are really more novels than non-fiction — they're 3 beautifully written books: NEITHER WOLF NOR DOG, THE WOLF AT TWILIGHT, and THE GIRL WHO SANG TO THE BUFFALO. He's a great writer, and I'm proud to be his publisher."

GREGORY W BITZ: Extensive publications / books. Greg has been active for many years on a national stage with his work. His writings, after his duty to country, are very insighful. We might remember Greg's work on "THE WALL" in 1964.

JOHN W JOHNSON: Published many articles over his carreer at Northern University of Iowa in Cedar Falls IA You might remember John's mesasage regarding our 50th HHS class reunion.

( https://historynewsnetwork.org/article/156468 ).  I spoke with John a few weeks ago. He is well, retired and living in Iowa.

KRISTIN JOHNSON: With co-author Polly Baird, Kristin created a series of UP TO 8 BOOKS K-8 textbooks entitled Mega Words.

PAM HANKINSON BONSPER:

                                                        ATTENTION ALL "HHS '64 VETERANS

The Minnesota state coordinator for Quilts of Valor will be present during our HHS '64 reunion at the Elks club. Information and assistance for nominating veterans to receive a quilt of valor will be provided.

Qualified veterans may receive their quilt during group public presentations such as Veteran's day celebrations or individually, such as at their nursing home or veterans care facility.

If you are a veteran or know a veteran, get a nomination going with Quilts of Valor. The foundation is a 501-3C non-profit with volunteers across the nation making  quilts and presenting them to veterans. The goal of the foundation is to cover service members touched by war with comforting and healing quilts of valor.
