IMPORTANT DATES IN HOPKINS HIGH SCHOOL'S HISTORY:

Avenue. Students from all the surrounding areas of Hopkins, Eden Prairie, and most of

what is now Minnetonka came to Hopkins to complete high school and prepare for college.

1925 A new elementary/junior high school building opened across the street from Hopkins High School

  • That building became a junior high in 1949 when Katherine Curren Elementary opened next door to the high school and it became South Junior High in 1959 when North Junior High opened on Cedar Lake Road.
  • South Junior High closed in 1977and it became Raspberry Ridge Apartments and the Hopkins Activity Center in 1981.

1955 A new Hopkins High School opened on the north side of Highway 7. The state-of-the-art high

school, the largest built in Minnesota at that time. had special rooms for choir and orchestra, a

swimming pool, a window-lined library over the front entrance, a 'little Theater," and rooms

for woodworking. metalworking, and auto repair, plus the school district offices.

  • Another unique feature was an observatory on the third floor. containing a telescope built by Lawrence Sauter, one of the teachers.
  • The old Hopkins High School became known as "The Annex"; it was torn down in 1974 to  provide the site for the Central Park Manor Apartments.

1970 Hopkins Lindbergh High School opened north of Cedar Lake Road: Hopkins High School on

Highway 7 became Hopkins Eisenhower High School

1980 The Golden Valley school district merged with Hopkins; all Golden Valley High School

students transferred to Hopkins Lindbergh High School.

1982 Hopkins Eisenhower High School closed and became a community center: Hopkins

Lindbergh was expanded to accommodate the students from both schools and the building

was renamed Hopkins High School. The Hopkins Eisenhower Warriors (purple and gold) and

Hopkins Lindbergh Flyers (maroon and gold) became the Hopkins High School Royals (royal

blue and silver). Additional major expansion and remodeling occurred in 1996 and 2004.
