Jim "gridder" Williams was one of my friends in high school where we played baseball and football together. He skipped 9th grade and went to 10th grade when they moved from Bloomington to Hopkins, yet still excelled in the classroom. His line in a school play(?) "what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and Greg Bitz is a son"

HOPKINS CLASS OF 1964
James M. Williams
JULY 1, 1947 - OCTOBER 15, 2018
James M. Williams died peacefully at his home in Prescott, AZ after many years battling multiple myeloma.
He is survived by his wife Randy, sons James and Matt, and three grandchildren.
While a student at Hopkins High School, James excelled in both academics and athletics. After high school, he attended Union College and Carleton College. Ultimately, he obtained his degree from Union College in New York and went on to work in the banking industry.
James (Gridder) was a kind and gentle man, but also a fierce competitor on the athletic fields and courts.

Gridder had a bright, impish smile. Bright mind, too. He could actually elevate on a basketball court, something I. could never do. A fun guy at North Junior High, and I missed him when he transferred. We might have shared Northfield together, but I never saw him down there. Thanks, Greg, for the update.
