Comments:

Life after graduation has been wonderful and I really feel that I've been blessed. After graduation, I moved to Dawson, GA where I worked for two years as a police officer while attending Andrew College in Cuthbert, about twenty miles away. What a culture shock that was!
Afterwards, when I turned 21, I was accepted and worked with JSO alongside classmates, Woody Hiers, Mike Pease and John Butler, for the next 25 years. After retiring in 1997, I accepted a position with the state court system as a Director of Court Operations.
I formerly directed the day-to-day operations at the Beach Boulevard Court Facility at 3490 Beach Boulevard. However, we have closed that facility and moved to the new Duval County Courthouse at 501 W. Adams street, and relocated those operations: Traffic court, family court mediation, juvenile dependency and small claims hearings to the new facility. I'm here each day, so please feel free to stop by if you have jury duty or other business in the courthouse and ask for me, I'd be glad to give you a tour and talk about our Lee days. 255-1097

School Story:

I had a wonderful time at Lee- although like most young people, I didn't think so at the time-and those memories have served me well throughout my life. My biggest regret is that I didn't stay in contact with the many good friends that I shared my life with.
I especially remember the Putt Putt Golf on Blanding Blvd. Steve Young, Eddy Gazaleh and I spent many afternoons there.
I remember too, Mr. Nochols' English class and his life learning experiences lecture before teaching English. Mr. Nichols would speak about obstacles facing us in our upcoming life after graduation and how to prepare ouselves. And, although I didn't take it serious then, his lessons and life experience teachings had a great impact later in life.
One of his many lessons I remember well was when he spoke about learning new skills as we get older and to never stop learning and improving ourselves because we must remain competitive. I remeber him saying that most people reach a plateau early in life and that's where they remain. I live by those memorable instructions today and I pass them on to my family and employees; and, because he was so right in those lessons, I would be remiss if I did not mention and thank him for that information.

I'm sorry to hear of Cheryl's passing. A few months ago while going through my year book, I came across Chery's picture. Right away my memory shifted to a conversation we had during lunch, just before graduation. We were discussing our future goals in life and i recall she spoke of education or social work as her chosen field. Cheryl was a soft spoken person who enunciated her words perfectly.

Saw Fred at the 50th reunion for the first time since graduation and invited him to sit at our table. We had a good time talking about our days at Gorrie and Lee. Fred was a really good basketball player and had a talent for the game that may have opened the door to some great opportunities. But, like so many young men, Fred said he was absent of a mentor in his life. R.I.P. Fred.

If I were asked to describe Ellis using one word that would be 'Perfectionist '. Ellis and I attended Pinedale Elementary, John Gorrie and then Lee. Throughout school, Ellis was one that always followed the rules and everything he did in his electrical career was done with finesse. Ellis mentored many prospective electricians and required the same detail orientation that he displayed. God rest, Ellis.

Attended the services for Joanne yesterday and spoke briefly to the congregation about our time together at Lee. Although not as close as many of you, Joanne, and I did share some enjoyable time in homeroom just talking. That was usually our free time before classes started. I spoke about the time when she  hit the vollyeball over the fence, striking my car and breaking off the antenna. The next day in homeroom, I said to her, " your the girl that broke my antenna", embarassed, she offered to pay for it. I  told her not to worry about it, the radio didn't work anyway.   Joanne had a beautiful service, I know she would be proud.

Helen, I'll always remember when we attended Lackawanna and you trying to teach me curse words in Arabic. I still remember those words and have used them sparingly, albeit under my breath.

Welcome home Donna. Good to hear that you and husband are enjoying yourselves by traveling. While on a recent trip I struck up a conversation with a man and his wife at a small restaurant in Alabama. After a short conversation we discovered we were classmates from 1958 at Pinedale elementary.
