I graduated from Sacramento State in 1966 and got my secondary teaching credential in 1967. I started teaching at Elk Grove High School in June of 67, the month before I had my 22nd birthday. I taught in Elk Grove for 17 years, with two years off to get my MA in Anthropology. I taught both junior and senior high and at 3 different continuation high schools. Along the way I became fascinated by computers and started the first computer instruction for junior high students in 1975. I returned to college and got an MEd in Computer Education. I started teaching at Cosumnes River College in 1984 in Computer Science. I switched to teaching Anthropology full-time in 1996 and retired in 2007.
I married for the third and last time in 1985. My wife is Jane Hansjergen, I kept my maiden name. When I met her, she was the elephant keeper for the Sacramento Zoo. She became an elementary school teacher 17 years ago and retired from that in 2007. We have been happily married for 26 years.
We travel a great deal. We have lived for awhile in Malaysia and Italy. I think we will keep travelling until we die. We do not go in tour groups, but rather go stay in some place long enough to get to know some folks pretty well. Our last place visited was Croatia and Bosnia-Herzevogina in April 2012.

School Story:

My favorite school memory is when Richard (Dick) Hansen took our acapella choir to the 1960 winter Olympics in Squaw Valley. I was a sophomore and had just joined the choir at the suggestion of my best friend, Jim Rinne, because: "girls outnumbered boys 2 to 1 and where can you get such odds!". It did not really hit me how big a deal this was until I was standing there as part of the opening ceremonies with 4 or five other choirs in the whole USA. We were singing as the torch was brought down a hill and handed to an ice skater who skated across the rink right by us and lit the flame. I still have the pin we all got as participants.

Are you planning to attend the Reunion?

Linda was in the drama club with me at M.H. Stanley run by Mrs. McCormick. She played the lead character in the play "The Witch of Blackbird Pond." I remember her as very smart, clever and quick-witted. She worked hard in that play. Once at Acalanes, I only saw her a couple of times. She told me once that her life was very sad compared to most of the kids who were in high school. I did not see her after our sophmore year, so I think that is when she left school. I am very sad to read her obituary as I remember her with grear admiration and fondness.
