Jim was one of the Green School contingent. He lived just down the street from me on Crosby Road and we would occasionally walk to and from school together, passing Buddy Feshler's house. One afternoon on our way home, we stopped to admire a box of kitties that were up for adoption. Jimmy and I came up with a brilliant plan to share a kitten--one week at my house, the next week at his. Our parents were not enthusiastic about the scheme, but my mother had a soft spot for baby cats and "Fluffy" was given a bed in a cardboard box and a litter box. The next week Fluffy boarded at Jimmy's house. When Jim brought Fluffy up the street at the end of the week, he annnounced that his mother was cancelling the contract. Fluffy was part of the Rice household from then on.
