Gary D. “Jake” Jacques

Gary D. “Jake” Jacques, 64, Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, after a long battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, Topeka. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.

He was born Nov. 20, 1946, in Marysville, the son of Russell and Velma Talbot Jacques. He graduated from Marysville High School.

After graduation he served in the Kansas Army National Guard for six years, serving a tour in Vietnam.

He married Diane Clark on Jan. 11, 1969 in Topeka.

After returning from Vietnam, he returned to his job as a carman for the Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka. In 1972, Gary and Diane returned to Marshall County to farm and he took a job as a carman for Union Pacific. In 1994 he transferred back to Topeka. After 30 years of railroad service he retired in 2008.

He enjoyed farming with his son, traveling the Midwest to watch drag racing with his wife and son, fishing, camping and hunting with family and friends.

He was a member of NHRA Drag Racing Association and the American Legion Post 400.

Gary is survived by his wife, Diane Jacques, Topeka; son, Eric Jacques, Marysville; daughter, Amy Christian, Topeka; four grandchildren; brother, Ronald Jacques; and sister, Bonnie Nincehelser.

Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Care Hospice House or the St. Francis Hospital Oncology Department, Topeka.
