MHS Class of 1966 Celebrates 50th Reunion
Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th, 50 members and 27 spouses and guests of the Marysville High School Class of 1966 celebrated their 50th reunion in Marysville with multiple activities. Sheila Schroller Taphorn and her husband Francis provided and drove a float that members decorated. Many rode on it in the homecoming parade on Friday down Broadway to the pep rally at the Pony Express Statue. Former teacher Sharon DeBusk, wife of football coach John attended the reunion and rode the float.
Next they toured the junior and high school buildings and were impressed with the ongoing upgrades. They shared many memories of the remaining structures recalling teachers, classes, and escapades. Following the tour, classmates met for a homecoming picnic in the city park sponsored by United Bank and Trust of Marysville.
Friday evening the class attended the homecoming football game and enjoyed the Bulldogs trouncing the Concordia Panthers. The announcer recognized the class including the undefeated football team and the State Champion basketball team. Following the game some socialized at the Knights of Columbus hall.
Saturday morning many members shared breakfast and reminisced at the Wagon Wheel. At noon, Jeff Keating hosted a well-attended luncheon at Landoll Lanes where he showed videos and answered questions about Landoll Inc. Marysville is very fortunate to have such an excellent successful company supporting the community.
Saturday evening the class met for dinner at the Knights of Columbus. Kathy Schell Phillips and others decorated the tables with yearbook photos, lighted bottles, flowers, and pennants. Several contributed to a table of memorabilia, old photos and scrapbooks. Donna Forgey gave the invocation. After a delicious dinner catered by Bite Me Barbecue, Steve Knight acknowledged contributions of classmates and Paul Jones presented a slide show with many old and new pictures that helped members recall “The Way We Were”. Eighteen class members who have passed were honored and remembered fondly. After the slides, a few brave souls even danced to some popular music from the era, donned costumes for framed photos, or retired to the bar.
Many class members commented that this was the best reunion they could recall and were so happy to have the opportunity to reconnect with friends and share memories of the good times and bad from their days at MHS.
