Comments:

Married Derek Tolman 1991, son of John Tolman, Hillcrest Seminary Principal
Graduated from BYU 1993 majoring in Family History, minoring in Family Science.
I am a brand new member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with my sister Melinda!! LOVING IT.
Professional genealogist with Legacy Tree Genealogy. ALSO LOVING IT.
Draper City Police crossing guard 1999-2004; Crossing guard coodinator 2004-2010.
Sang with Salt Lake Choral Artists 1999-2013 (Legacy Chorale under the direction of Dr. Bentley 1999-2004; now SLCA under direction of Dr. Brady Allred--awesome choir! www.saltlakechoralartists.org).

My husband is a Colonel in the Utah National Guard, retiring this year (2014). He was deployed to Iraq for 15 months in 2003-2004, and Afghanistan for 12 months in 2008-2009. I got a small taste of single parenthood with our five young children, and will be forever grateful that it was temporary. :-) The challenges of those two years were erased in 2010-2011 when the kids and I got to accompany him to Carlisle, Pennsylvania where he attended the U.S. Army War College. Besides getting to live in an awesome old farmhouse, we took advantage of every weekend and holiday to travel up and down the East Coast and gain knowledge of and appreciation for this great country of ours.

I was instrumental in saving that awesome old farmhouse from being demolished. My research proved it was an integral part of the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, the first off-reservation Indian boarding school in the U.S., and the model for all the others in the country. We are in the process of having it placed on the National Register, restored, and made into a visitors' center representing the Indian residential school experience. I hope this project will help Native Americans to come together, to rise above the suffering of the past, and to renew their strength and identity as a people.

School Story:

Choir dominates my memories of high school. That's where I found my truest friends, whom I still regard with fondness. I'll never forget that unified feeling of creating good music together, especially with Vocal Ensemble. It has kept me singing the rest of my life.
