Saturday Reception and Buffet

Our classmate, Vice Admiral (retired) Robert George, former Commander of the Canadian Navy was our emcee for the event. Bob recounted that while in UBC, classmate Colin Neal encouraged him to join the Royal Canadian Navy via the Regular Officer Training Plan.  After graduation with his BSc., Bob served in the navy for over 35 five years on HMCS ships on the East and West Coast of Canada, eventually commanding the Canadian Navy.  Having served as Canada’s Defence Attaché in Tokyo, Japan, as Deputy Chief of Defence Staff in Ottawa, Bob finished his career as Canada’s Military Representative to NATO in Brussels, Belgium.  For more on Bob, see:

Bob welcomed grads and their guests and then directed everyone’s attention to the main door. Bagpipe classmate Dave Wilson piped in the reunion committee.  Bob said a few words about the committee and thanked them (and Dave) for their work.

Richard Stepp, former member of the Beach Boys, was the music DJ for the reception. The theme was “You Name it and Richard will Play it!”. Of course, most requests were for all those oldies from the 50’s and 60’s.  Later, there was dancing!

Winners of the silent auctions were:

Ginny Bone (Al Bone’s wife): Wine package provided by Ron Price

Peter Macnair: Cottage retreat vacation provided by Diana Davidson

Ellis Breiddal: Mystery gift provided by Don Homer

Ellis Breiddal: Gift from realtor Iain Edmonds.

Don Homer:  Birdhouse built by Ellis Breiddal

Don Homer and Ron Price:  Fishing trip offered by John Bartok

Sunday Breakfast Buffet

Again, Dave Wilson brought his bagpipes to pipe in the reunion executive.  Nina (Genjack) Kurrle then introduced Dave Wilson as the emcee for the event.  With his wry sense of humor, Dave explained how he was roped into the job.  He regaled the crowd with several stories, both current and past. .

Dave administered the draw that determined which table went next to the buffet.

There was mingling and socializing before Dave drew the brunch to a close about 1 pm.
