Sept.22 2021 Zoom meeting

Thirteen classmates attended the Sept 22, 2021 meeting.  They all put on a special smile for the following screenshot.

Top row:  Rob and Lynne Hohert, Jo Ann (Mitchell) Wedley and Bill Wedley, Sheila (Brown) Ward, Ed Jackson

Middle Row:  Sylvia (Jones) Enga, Glennis (Hart) Davidson-White, Marion (Humphrey) Marsden, Nina (Genjack) Kurrle,

Bottom Row: Duncan McLean, Bill and Vicky Huxham, Colin Neal, Diana Davidson

Rob Hohert appeared first. He and Sheila chatted about towns they were familiar with in Ontario. Sheila had lived in Kitchener Waterloo for a year after UBC working as a Victorian Order Nurse. Rob and Lynne lived in Breslau for 5 years and Rob commuted daily to Toronto where his business was situated – at least one hour in each direction.

Sylvia Enga came next and told us it was her husband Eric’s 82 birthday and she baked a lemon cake and planned a festive evening dinner with friends that she would prepare after taking a run to Costco. She also spoke about a recent wedding that took place at Camp Artaban where she and her family continue to enjoy as a vacation spot. Jo Ann Wedley without sound for a few minutes and then once unmuted told us that Bill would join us once he had returned from his radiation treatment. Traffic and faulty machines can complicate his life. Marion had no difficulty getting on zoom. Because of Covid, she didn’t get to Penticton yet to see her granddaughter’s new house. Her granddaughter works on large ships on the Great Lakes. After 30 days, the company flies her back home for another 30 days.

Ed Jackson told us about his exercise regime which includes lawn bowling at the new facility at St. Andrews and 24th. He and Anne had their house renovated to add an elevator from the ground floor to the upstairs. As the door to the elevator was directly behind where he was seated, he showed us the spacious elevator. It is impressive.

Bill Huxham (and wife) said hello and then Bill showed us the book he had ordered. It was by Judy Wilson-Rayboult, Indian in the Cabinet: Speaking Truth to Power. While still in process of reading, he said it gave a clear picture of how the Cabinet works.

Duncan told us he isn’t playing with his flight simulator since he has a new computer that does not have the correct programme to it. He reads a great deal and mentioned he likes mysteries, science fiction and just about everything else.

A new addition to our zoom calls, Glennis (Hart) joined us from her home in Kamloops. She has Parkinson’s but is active and happy in the company of her husband who helped her get on to zoom and encourages her in many ways. She had a lot of recall from high school days. She and Diana shared memories of Mr. Stevenson who had a few issues including anger management.

Rob Hohert answered a question about moorage fees in Georgia for his rather large Boat. He said it costs about a thousand a month to moor – BOAT meaning “break out another thousand”. They came back to solid ground in Wisconsin when the hurricane season was heating up.

Colin Neal tucked in his place in Ontario tells us that he likely will come out to the coast at Christmas. He has sons here so some of the gang might get to see him. Nina Kurrle, speaking from Everett, Washington remarked how very busy she has been this week with lots of meetings and activities. She also said she had encouraged one young relative in California to be sure to get vaccinations for their daughter. Everyone on the zoom call had been vaccinated.

Diana Davidson joined the zoom late. She had been playing the piano and lost track of time. She and husband, Mark, are enjoying the quietude of their remote cabin. They both enjoy writing, mostly nonfiction, about their nerve-racking experiences in boats and off-the-beaten-track places. She will send a copy to Rob Hohert to review.

Bill Wedley updated us on his cancer treatment protocol as well as read messages from other classmates who were unable to join today’s session.  Regards and best wishes were sent by George German and Cathy (Bottomley) German (medical appointment in Kingston),  Dorothy (Gibb) Wilkie (busy at online web lecture and luncheon), Chris Taschner (golf commitment), Karen (Wells) Burgess (health tests), and Don Risk (travel to northwest Ontario to visit his son at their new lake cottage).

Before leaving the meeting, there was agreement that our next zoom call should be December 29th. Please mark your calendar.
