Zoom meeting – August 3, 2026
Liz (Spouse) Lee, Bill Wedley, Marion Marsden, Sylvia (Jones) Enga, Nina (Genjack) Kurrle, John Bartok , Glennis (Hart) Jones, Robin Fitzgerald, Sheila (Brown) Ward
A discussion of fires (no one present is near at this time) ensued. John spoke about the “unbelievable” fishing this year. Whales have decimated the seal population. Hundreds of fish have been caught by John.
Sylvia is having a summer of visitors. They are lovely to see in general. She also has apples by the bucket so has been busy making applesauce.
Robin joined us for the first time even though he lives in Shepparton, Australia and it was the middle of the night his time. Robin was born in Chemainis and graduated from Delbrook. He spoke about visiting North Vancouver last year and his pleasure at meeting up with some classmates. He mentioned seeing Don Risk a number of times. Now living in a Retirement Center, he keeps involved with playing bridge, as well as football and cricket clubs. Thursday is “dinner” night at the Center and he still works 4 hours a week at Agriculture Advising.
Bill mentioned the Lynn Valley Archives which showed him a photo of his grandfather (Ellsworth McMillan) that they retrieved from their collection. The photo was taken inside Paine’s Hardware which used to be on First and Lonsdale. Bill explained that his grandfather was once a co-owner of that store.
Glennis’ husband told us that Glennis enjoys the zoom meetings even though she has some frustration with her speech difficulty because of Parkinson’s. We are always glad to see her in our zoom meetings.
Liz spoke about their regular visits to Merida, Mexico where they have a house from which they meet up with local friends, attend a large variety of events, and take trips to the numerous historic places that are nearby. It keeps them away from the worst of Ottawa winters.
Marion enjoys joining the zoom meetings and remains her usual quiet self.
