Dec. 30, 2024 zoom meeting

NVHS/Delbrook Zoom Meeting – Dec 30, 2024

Present: Liz (Spouse) Lee, Nina (Genjack) Kurrle, Dave McKay and Joan, Sylvia (Jones) Enga, Bill Riddall, Rob Hohert, Glennis (Hart) White with husband Bryan, George German, Diana Davidson, Ken Matheson, Marion (Humphrey) Marsden, John Bartok, Sheila (Brown) Ward. Bill Wedley was absent as he is in Australia with his family (the time difference didn’t work for him).

There has been a lot of travel as well as planned travel. Sylvia had a cruise in the Bahamas with her granddaughter, Rob was in the south in Florida with many of his family, Bill Riddall is heading to Maui next month, and John Bartok has been boating to catch a lot of fish. Most described happy Christmas gatherings with families. There are many grandchildren to be proud of and some great grand kids.

Several new hips are helping mobility (Liz’ husband, Diana), and Bill has a new shoulder. Regular tennis is shared with John and Bill. Swimming (Diana, Sheila, Liz) and hiking are enjoyed and others are just happy to be able to walk around.

Diana and husband, Mark, continue to publish BC stories. They have a website: Editor@inletpublishing.net if any folks want to check it out. They specialize in adventures and services that have a local/regional base.

Liz asked people to talk about volunteering activities they participate in. She herself has a long history of activity in Ottawa with the War Museum specializing in textile conservation. Ken is busy with a Prostate Cancer support group, Nina is active with Church women helping people in her community with a range of needs. Diana described some of the activist activities she and her husband are involved with. She said the Vancouver Mayor and the Premier have been eliminating zoning restrictions which is changing the landscape for developers. Sylvia is active with the Anglican Church Warehouse in Langley which helps refugees and people in the North who have various needs. And Rob is running an Investment Club for his grandkids which is helping them learn to grow funds.

Other notes of interest: John organizes an annual Ping Pong competition which includes about 25 people (mostly family), George emphasized what a blessing it is to live on the west coast – he misses the rain but likes being near his family.

Bill Wedley was missed and wondered about. Others mentioned by Liz, were Judy (Stewart) also in Ottawa and regularly visits with Liz, Fei (Jackman) Wong occasionally gets to Ottawa – all shared Home Ec studies at UBC.

Evelyn (Bengough) Sarginson who now lives in England replied to Bill Wedley’s email, She said she wanted to hear from folks who remembered her.  Nina said she remembered Evelyn and would try to get in touch.  I suggested to Nina that she encourage Evelyn to join our class website and the next zoom meeting.

Diana mentioned that her husband Mark has a professional zoom and may be able to host the next class zoom meeting so there are no interruptions! Greetings to all, and Happy New Year!
