Peter died Dec 5, 2006 at Lions Gate Hospital.

Peter was one of the few native classmates that went through our public school system.  His family was progressive in that respect because his brothers and sisters also took that route.  We should have had more!

Peter was very good at sports. I first met him in 1952 when we were on the same baseball team during the inaugural season of Little League on the North Shore. Subsequently, we went to Sutherland and North Van High and we played on the same soccer team (Buffaloes and Craftsman Floors).  In 1957, he was in the group that started Delbrook.  I remember the first football game of Delbrook vs North Van High.  Peter was the linebacker on the left hand side.  As quarterback of North Van, I had tried a couple of quickie jump passes to Robin Dyke.  They were unsuccessful, because Peter had quick reactions and knocked them down.  Finally, late in the game, we positioned one of our ends far to the left.  Peter followed that person out, we tried the quickie pass, and Robin Dyke scored a touchdown.  I don't know which is more memorable -  getting Peter out of the way or Robin scoring a touchdown.

It was in 2002 when Len Corben invited myself, Bob Caldwell, and Peter Baker to Kinsmen Park for pictures to celebrate the 50th year of Little League.  Peter had taken the bus to get there, because he was unable to drive after suffering a stroke a few years ealier.  I offered to drive him home.  It was not far, but we had a great time reminiscing about our junior and senior school years.  I remember seeing the notice of Peter's death and the celebration of life that was held on his behalf.  For some reason I did not go.  I regret that!
