In Memory

E. Pamela M. Jenkins

E. Pamela M. Jenkins

                             JENKINS, Euphemia Pamela Mary

Born Vernon May 24 1940, Died Kelowna May 16 2017

Pam’s death was sudden & unexpected – a major bleed into the brain stem.

Predeceased by parents Alan Colvin Jenkins (born London England 1905) April 1973 & Effie Lillian (Price) Jenkins (born Birmingham England 1907) June 1988, and by beloved 2nd husband Robert E. Christopher March 29 2003.  Survived by 1) older brother Robert W. Jenkins (Mary) of West Kelowna – children Edward A Jenkins (Dawn Walker) & their daughter Thora, of Almonte Ontario,  and Carol E J Kuhn (Martin) of Victoria. 2) younger sister Barbara E Coughlin (James C Anderson) of Kelowna.  Having a father who was frequently transferred, Pam grew up in New Westminster, Vancouver, Trail & North Vancouver.  Called Pam by all her friends, or Te-Te by her family, the nickname was  given her by Bob when she was a baby.

Graduated Delbrook Senior High School North Vancouver in 1958, Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing (R.N.) February 1962 , UBC School of Nursing (B.Sc.N) 1966.  Pam worked as public health nurse for North Shore Public Health (North Vancouver) 1966 – 1995, where she specialized in working as an advocate for families with special needs children.  Indeed, in 1990, she was given an Award of Excellence in Nursing Practice by the Registered Nurses Association for her work.  She was beloved by her clients & many remained friends long after Pam retired.  Pam was also very active on committees bargaining rights for public health nurses.

She lived in a beautiful house on the Alouette River in Maple Ridge for nearly 50 years., where she hosted many, many parties &  family gatherings.  Easters were very special, as eggs would be hidden all over the property & the kids had to  search them out – each packet carefully labelled with the child’s name, & hidden in an appropriate place for the age of the child – tough if you were 13 & had to climb a tree – easier if you were 3 & it was in the middle of the lawn. 4 packs per child. Pam & Robert took many long trips overseas, mostly to Europe & Asia.  Pam loved beautiful things – antiques & jewellery especially, frequenting auction houses looking for bargains – she was an amateur gemologist.    Pam was also an excellent cook. After retirement she took up art – attending many painting workshops with her dear friend Helen O’Neill.  Pam will be remembered for her quick wit & passion for life.

Pam will be sorely missed by all who knew her.  There will be no service, by request.  The family asks that all who knew her, gather with other friends, & remember her over wine & good food.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

I remember Pam very fondly from Sutherland and North Van High.    She was a lovely lady with such a winning smile.    Such a tragic loss and my deepest condolences go out to Pam's family.    May she rest in peace.

We were very close friends in high school and she came to VGH not long after me. Many fond memories.... I am so glad to have had a recent conversation with her the day I found this class site.  I am so happy to read of her very full and rewarding career and her many successes.  My sympathies to her family.  Rest in peace,Pam.
