Comments:

I married Gary Mathie in the Salt Lake Temple, February, 1960 and worked for Commercial Security Bank - assisted with the conversion from bookkeeping machines to computers.

Gary lost his job at Sperry Utah in 1964, due to the loss of govenment contracts, just one week after our son was born and there were no jobs available. We made the decision to join the golf business and moved to SLC in 1966. During this time I worked for First Security Bank/Commercial Loan Teller and Gary worked as an assistant Golf Professional. He became a P.G.A. Golf Professional; obtained the Head Golf Professional job at the Pocatello Golf & Country Club and we moved to Pocatello, ID in 1969.

I took care of the bookkeeping responsibilities while doing party plan and raising the children. I was a District Sales Manager for Artex Hobby Products for Idaho & Montana 77-79. I also worked for Nielson Engineering, Pocatello, ID. as office manager/bookkeeper 81 - 91.

In 1991 we moved to Tooele where Gary took the Head Golf Professional position at the Oquirrh Hills Golf Course and I went to work for Morrison Knudsen at the Chem Demil project. In 1992 I was asked if I would like the payroll manager position with EG&G Defense Materials at Deseret Chemical Depot. It became a real challenge as the project was just getting started and there seemed to be changes on a daily basis or at least it seemed like it. It has continued to change over the years and after 17 years I still had not conquered it all. The project had approximately five more years. I retired in 2012 after 20 years. Probably the hardest part was not working with the many wonderful people that all worked on the project to destroy the destructive nerve agent that had been stored on the site since the 1940s.

In 1998 my youngest daughter wanted to get her degree in college and I volunteered to help her with her four children while she did it. However she talked me into going back to school with her and we graduated from University of Phoenix in 2002 with a dual degree - Business Management & Business Administration. It was a real challenge with both of us working full time, studying and maintaining our households. Gary was very supportive and made sure the kids were fed on the nights that we were away.

We have 13 grandchildren, 10 boys and 3 girls, the three oldest are married and the youngest is 13 years old. We also have 3 great grandsons and a great granddaughter with another on the way. We thoroughly enjoy them.

Life has been good for us.

Gary passed away June 20, 2020.

School Story:

I have fond memories of the band trips, the pep band and marching band experiences.

Chris, that is one good looking bear. Never saw one with such a smile on its face though.

I'm so sorry to hear Merle passed away.  I loved hearing her voice and she had such a bubbly personality.  Was so enjoyable to be around her.
