This is a picture that was taken at the north east corner of 36th and Zenith on our first day of kindergarten in the fall of 1950. I know that it was the first day because we were waiting on the wrong side of the street, the bus stopped on the south east corner of the intersection. Note the tags around our necks with our names and the bus number on them. From left to right: me, Cara Benson, Corolyn Anderson, Sue Kaerscher, unknown person, and Bing Johnson
There is a "keep off the grass" sign in the background to the right. I don't think any one of us could to read it. We went first to a two room wooden school house in New Hope, on 42nd and Winnetka while they were completing construction of the south wing of Lee Ave school. We moved from Winnetka to Lee after Christmas vacation of 1950.
