Salem High School
Class Of 1970
Welcome to the Salem High Class Of 1970 web site.

Our 40th class reunion is planned for July 3, 2010.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dear Classmates,
A few months ago I received a call that was unexpected, and had I not clearly recognized the voice on the other end of the phone, I would have considered it a prank call, and simply "hung up". After receiving the call I waited to hear the words: "No, I'm just kidding you". However, that was not the case, and to say the least, I was dumbfounded. At first I did not know if I should smile, shed a tear, or jump up & down; hence, I did all three; I will admit that mostly, it was tears running down both cheeks. Excepting for my family and the group, I kept the news very private for a bit over a month as to let the news come from the "Offical Sources"; candidly, I still had some fears that perhaps something might happen that would "derail" this nomination. A week later after receiving written communication, my fears subsided; after 47 years of practice, performances, travel, soundchecks, and work; induction into the South Dakota Rock & Roll Hall of Fame became official. The Induction Ceremony will be April 21st, 2012 at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall (a very large venue) in Sioux Falls. Limited seating for the event is still available. (The past 4 years has found this to be a "Sold-Out" event) Our Group "Something New' will perform, in-concert for about 45 minutes at the Induction Ceremony. Some previous "Inductees" include: Myron Lee & the Caddies, Bobby Vee, The Flippers, The Red Dogs, KISD Radio, The Mob, The Castaways, Radio DJ's Ken Mills & Ray Ford (KISD), as well as Steve Ellis and the Starfires. Jack Kolbeck, has graciously taken it upon himself to reserved a table; the details for that should be acquired directly from Jack. I have communicated to Jack that I am humbled by his jesture, efforts, and friendship. I want to make sure you all know that you are invited, welcome, and encourged to attend to a reception and concert that will commerate this induction: The date for that reception and concert that will be held at the Grand Falls Casino's "Grand Master Suite", on the 10th of March, 2012, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. After the reception, our Group, "Something New" will take the stage and perform 3-sets of "Good Old Rock & Roll"! These events at Grand Falls (including the concert) are - - free! This would also be an excellent time not only to "See the Band" and reminisce, it would serve well as an excellent oppportunity to once again be reunited with classmates and friends. Folks, in no small part, you all have an active part/role in this achievement; in the past you allowed me to perform for many events while we were in school, helping in the process of "Honing the Skills" that would necessary in the future to compete, perform, and eventually prosper within the entertainment industry. Many of you have actively promoted this group in the subsequent years since graduation; words cannot express the gratitude that I harbor for that support. There is a "a ton of history" that is most intersting, and I would be happy to post more if you are interested as all of this unfolds. Please accept my deep appreciation, and my desire to see you at one, or both of the events. I am most fortunate to have been a member of Salem High's "Class of 70".

Just thought I would let everyone know that Jim Lofswold is working at Beal. At the reunion I found out from Jim that his job had been eliminated due to the circumstances surrounding the economy. I was looking for someone like Jim to merchandise stores in the Sioux Falls Area. He came to work a couple weeks after the reunion and is still with Beal. His brother Gary is in Sioux Falls for a couple of weeks. Jim and Gary and I got together and had a good time. I don't believe I had seen Gary for I don't know how long. Anyway,Gary said he was going to move to Sioux Falls sometime next spring. He has retired from NASA in Virginia. I know some of you who were at the reunion had heard Jim and I talking about the job so I thought I'd pass on the info. Beal is lucky to have Jim. Hope everything is well with all of you and have a Happy Holiday. Jack and Muriel Kolbeck
PS. My daughter Jacquelyn and husband Tanner blessed us with a new grandson on Oct. 21st. Samson Tanner Kolbeck Sheick. He joins the family along with our granddaughter Nora Ellen Bishop who was born to our daughter Kimberly and her husband Charlie on April the 8th.
I don't know where the past 40 years went, but I do know this: we are blessed with each day we are given, and I am proud to say that going to school with you people means more now than ever. It was great to reconnect and let's do it again in five years. Anyone want to join me in working on the next reunion, so Janet can sit back and be the guest?! (Serious offer.) Also if you didn't come to the reunion because high school wasn't that great of a time in your life, please come back. We are more mature, kinder, and truly interested in what has become of you. I didn't see people hanging with "cliques."
