James Egan, a Stamford, CT native died on Dec 21 in Honolulu at the age of 79. A 1951 Stamford High School graduate, Jim had a long and successful advertising career in New York City with Ogilvy & Mather. He won many creative awards and was honored by the prestigious New York Art Director's Club. In 1981 he transferred to O&M's new Honolulu office and quickly took up the 'art' of golf and of being self-employed in advertising, graphic design and photography.
After retiring from advertising Jim filled his time with golf, managing his Maui vacation rental properties and more golf. Still needing a creative outlet he joined the Honolulu Printmakers and continued to create, display and win awards on his own works.
At the age of 62 and being diagnosed with leukemia, Jim received a bone marrow transplant which led to a remarkable recovery that lasted 17 years.
He is survived by his three children- Jim Egan of Kennesaw GA, Brian Egan of Norwalk CT and Denise Egan White of Duxbury MA. Jim is also survived by 2 siblings, Rita and Josh of Seattle WA
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, Seattle, WA.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial reception on Dec 29 at 5PM at The Honolulu Club, Honolulu, HI and on Jan 19, 3PM at the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club, Westport CT.
