James H. Moore HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP Jim Moore, 85, died suddenly of a sleep apnea induced seizure at his home on March 21, 2019. He was a supremely competent man with an extraordinary sense of humor. Jim was decisive, objective, and skilled with both words and numbers. He had an exceptional intellect. He was loving beyond measure to his wife, Billie, and two sons, Eric and Chris. And he was such fun to be with. Born and raised in Stamford, CT, after high school graduation Jim served in the U.S. Army in the Office of Chief of Information as a feature writer and producer of radio and TV programs. He then went on to get a degree in journalism from Ohio University, where he was a nominee for a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. He worked for Gallup & Robinson, Inc., in Princeton as an account executive, conducting research studies on advertising effectiveness. He ultimately became assistant to the president. He moved on to John Moynahan & Co., a public relations firm in New York City. Another upward move brought Jim to Hill and Knowlton, Inc., at the time the largest public relations firm in the world, where he became a vice president. Jim returned to Princeton after eight years with H & K to serve as vice president and director of client services with Mapes and Ross, Inc., another advertising research firm. Jim capped his career at the Advertising Research Foundation in New York City. The ARF represents all elements of the advertising industry in improving the effectiveness of marketing and advertising research. He was senior vice president and director of operations and publisher of the Journal of Advertising Research, a peer-reviewed academic periodical. Jim was a self-taught sailor who earned a captain's certificate for sailing boats with up to six people. He and Billie spent many hours over many years sailing various boats in the Barnegat Bay. He served for 15 years as an American Association of Retired People (AARP) volunteer tax preparer. He loved reading, exercising, the beach and ocean, sailing in the Caribbean and, always and especially, being with his family. Jim was predeceased by his beloved son, Eric; mother, Lavera; father, James II; and sister Carol Reddig. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Billie, and son, Chris, as well as his nephew, Matthew Reddig and brother-in-law, Gary Reddig. Many friends also mourn his loss. He will always be missed. There were no services, according to Jim's wishes. Those desiring to remember and honor him may donate in his memory to The Open Medicine Foundation, 29302 Laro Dr., Agoura Hills, CA 91301, a foundation dedicated to advancing knowledge and research into one of the most dreadful of maladies, myalgic encephalomyelits, which caused Eric's death.
