This is the obituary or Joseph Santaga who had been married to Jackie Byle for 52 years at the time of his death in 2017. His first marraige was to our classmate, Joyce Brondo who died in 1965.


Joseph Louis Santagata, Sr., 84, experienced his final healing peacefully at home on Tuesday July 4, 2017, embraced by his loving family. Joseph was a resident of Shelton and longtime resident of Stamford. Joseph was born in Stamford, CT on May 28, 1933 son of the late Joseph Louis and Lucia Esposito Santagata.
Joe was a US Marine and member of the Stamford Loch City Detachment of the Marine Corp League and was a familiar face in all of Stamford's Parades. In addition to many diversified careers, he spent many years as a self-employed Tile and Marble Contractor.
He was a Former member of the Democratic City Committee, served on the Stamford Board of Representatives, Building Board of Appeals, State Harbor Master, Fairfield County Deputy Sheriff, Stamford Constable Clerk of the Works, and Co-Founder of the Bobby Valentine Little League in the 1970s as well as the American Italian Association.
He enjoyed watching boxing and was an avid Yankee fan. Anyone who knew him heard the story of how he was lucky enough to see Don Larson pitch a perfect game from the press box at Yankee Stadium. He also loved watching his grandchildren play baseball on many fields, for many years.
Joe enjoyed roller and ice skating, cooking, gardening, boating, fishing, sculpting and wood crafting, horseback riding, dancing, and working hard. But most of all spending time with his family, who were the light of his life. He also had many life-long friends who will miss him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Jackie Byle Santagata of 52 years, and his children, Joyce Orgera and her husband Ernest, Gary Santagata and his wife Barbara, Sharon Gross and her husband Richard, John Santagata and his wife Patricia, and Kelly Coppola and her husband Thomas.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Jill, Richard, Kevin, Marc, Benjamin, Nicholas, Thomas, Karla, Steven, Patrick, Zachary, Olivia, Adam and Karly, and great-grandchildren, Richard, Alexander, Colin, Lila, Emma and one more on the way.
Also surviving is a brother Dominick Santagata and sisters Antoinette Pagliano and Lorraine Vernal.
Besides his parents Joseph was predeceased by his son Joseph Santagata Jr. and his first wife Joyce Brondo Santagata.
Relatives and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on TUESDAY, July 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel RC Church, 914 Newfield Ave., Stamford. Burial will be privately held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at The Smilow Cancer Hospital for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joseph's memory to the Smilow Cancer Hospital, 20 York Street, New Haven, CT 06510 and/or to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
