Lloyd Arthur Foster, Ed.D., of Tolland and Coventry, went to be with the Lord, Monday (March 18, 2002). He is survived by his wife and best friend, Virginia (Wood) Foster and their children, Brad and Heidi (Foster) Heim, Steven and Leigh (Foster) St. Onge, Lance and Dana Foster, Jonathan Foster, Barry and Jeannette Foster, Daniel Foster and Angie Resto, Victoria Foster, Rikio Foster, David and Pamela Doyle, Linda Belanger, Elizabeth McCarthy; and many others who called him "Dad" He is also survived by 24 grandchildren; his siblings, George Douglas and Helen Foster, Eugene and Barbara (Foster) Ritenour and Joan Foster. Lloyd "Art" was born June 11, 1933, in Stamford, son of the late Lloyd and Celeste (Olmstead) Foster and graduated from Stamford High School, Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Art earned his BS at Gordon College in 1960 and later received his Masters form the University of Hartford in 1964 and his Doctor of Education from Nova University in 1986. He was employed by the Hartford Board of Education from 1968 'til 1994, serving as principal of Annie Fisher School from 1972 to 1994. He was then principal in Union, from 1998 to 2000. He was a published Poet and gentleman farmer with a passion for the Lord, his family, education, trotter horses, pygmy goats and a dog name Leisel. Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2 p.m. in the Union Congregational Church, corner of Union and Elm Streets, Vernon. There will be no calling hours. In respect for his dedication and love for children and education, his family request expressions of sympathy be made in lieu of flowers to: Lloyd Arthur Foster Educational Fund, c/o Rockville Bank, P.O. Box 660, Vernon, CT 06066. Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Rte. 83) Vernon, has care of the arrangements.
