Charles E. Treadway Jr., a retired head custodian for Stamford Public Schools, died Monday, Aug. 5, at his home in Stamford. He was 69. He died of heart failure and diabetes-related illnesses, according to his family. During the past year, he was cared for by his daughter-in-law, Tiffini Ragsdale Treadway of Stamford. Born March 14, 1933 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Ruth and Charles E. Treadway. Before working as a custodian, Mr. Treadway was a shop steward in the bindery at Condé Nast Publications, formerly in Greenwich. Mr. Treadway graduated from Stamford High School in 1951. From 1956 to 1958, he served in 24th regiment 7th cavalry in Inchon during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged. He was a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church in Stamford. He was also a member of the I.B.P.O.E. The Shining Star Lodge #14, the St. John Masonic Lodge, the AARP, and numerous other organizations. He was survived by a son, Charles E. Treadway III of Stamford; two daughters, Jacqueline Boyd of Norlina, N.C., and Rachel Clair Treadway of Bridgeport; a sister, Delores Collins of Freemont, Calif.; a brother, retired Stamford Police Sgt. Martin Treadway of Stamford; a granddaughter and four grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Pattie C. Treadway; a sister, Virginia Rosina Perdue; and a brother, Raymond L.B. Treadway. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12 at the church. The Rev. Winton M. Hill III will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodland cemeteryin Stamford. Arrangements are being handled by the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
