John " Jack " White, age 79, of Fairfield, husband of the late Mary Louise Sherwood White, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 peacefully at home. Jack was born November 7, 1933 and raised in the Springdale section of Stamford, son of the late James and Hannah Long White, Jack had been a Fairfield Town resident for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Stamford High School. At 17, he enlisted in the Navy and spent three years aboard the USS Knapp touring the world during the Korean War. Jack was retired from SNET as an installer after 33 years of service. He also spent many nights working part-time at the original Colony Grill in Stamford with his good friends Jimmy and Bo-Bo. Jack enjoyed working outdoors at his home and golfing with his many friends. He was a longtime member of the VFW Post 399 of Westport and was an avid NY Giants and NY Mets fan. Jack was a great Dad, Grampy and Friend and his sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Anne Vance and her husband Bob of Fairfield and Susan Broderick and her husband Jerry of Trumbull and a son Daniel White. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, who brought so much joy and happiness to his life, Kathryn and Kerry Vance of Fairfield and John and Kellie Broderick of Trumbull. Jack also leaves behind a brother Michael F. White of Williamsburg, VA and a special companion, Barbara Yeager. In addition to Mary-Lou, his beloved wife of 34 years, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard White. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:15am in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center and at 10am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Rd., Fairfield with burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Fairfield with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
