Where else have you lived?

We have never lived outside of the state of Washington - Yakima, Wenatchee, Seattle

Grandchildren:

Watching our friends enjoy their grandchildren, we now recognize one of the shortcomings of having our children in our mid-30's. Bret married in August 2012. Given that his wife and he are anxious to start a family, we are hoping for our first grandchild in 2013!

Great Grandchildren:

Ha - we are still waiting for our first grandchild!

Retired? Planning Retirement?

No definite plans yet. We figure we will know when the time has come. This spring/summer, we plan to search for some G.O.O.D (Get Out of Dodge) property so we have our place when we decide we have "had enough".

My life after high school graduation:

We kicked around (mostly partying!) just enjoying life and each other the first few years. Deciding it was time to (according to our parents) "grow up and be responsible", in 1976 we married and spent our honeymoon moving to Seattle where Doug had a job. I graduated summa cum laude from the U of W (go Huskies!) with a business degree in 1980 and earned my CPA in 1981. Quickly realizing that I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in public accounting, in 1983 I went to work for Pay 'N Save (a thriving company at the time), becoming Controller of Lamonts when it was spun off in 1985. With a change in management, two young boys at home, one of them (Michael) with health issues, in 1991 I decided it was time for my first (and only so far) retirement. Doug, who had started out in insurance and finance before migrating to the car business, had a successful public car auction, providing me the luxury of being a stay-at-home mom. By 1993, both boys were in school and I was getting antsy, so I joined the company that I work for now. I still find the work interesting and challenging, like the ownership and coworkers and their ethics and lack of company politics - a true blessing. After selling his auction and fullfilling the contractual commitment to non-compete and work for the auction a few years, Doug started a car wholesaling business, which he still operates. Now that Michael is out of school, he enjoys accompanying his Dad while he conducts his business and Doug likes having a "car pool buddy", a valuable asset in the Seattle area!

School Story/Memories of SHS:

I feel fortunate to have been raised in Sunnyside during the period we were. Our ONLY source of entertainment was our personal relationships with our friends and families, and because of that we were closer to each other than any of the students now days. I like that most of us knew each other since we were 5 years old or younger. Whenever I glance through the album, the memories of all of you make me smile. The fire drills at the old Denny Blaine school, Deb Taylor and I playing with Barbie's at recess in 2nd grade so intent that we didn't hear the bell to go back to class, Barry Morrow accidently knocking a teacher down and hiding in the bushes in 1st grade, Whitney Williams enthralling all of us girls when she was the first to get a bra, Karlyn Roscoe so patiently trying to show me how to do "the Kip" in PE, Terry Green and I buying makeup and nylons for our first day of Jr. High, the fun times at A&W with Gayle, Nori, Sherri, et al, the first "boy-girl" party at Pam's house, the summer Linda Rogers and I picked cherries together (we ate more than we harvested!), hanging out at Sue Ellen's house, skipping school with Bob Smith and Don Bergquist and shooting my first and only animal (I think it was a prairie rat). There are too many memories to recount here, but even though I have stayed in touch with just a hand full of you (BFF - Sherri, Karen, Mary, Pam!), all of you were a wonderful part of my childhood years! Thanks for the memories!

Do you still have family around Sunnyside?

No

Do you still hang out with any classmates? Who?

Sherri Luther, Karen Carlyle, Mary Anthony (who we will miss on our outings, but her memory will always be with us). And now that Pam Hansen lives in the lower 48, I look forward to spending some time with her.
