Several classmates concur that Dick passed away, probably from a virus that he picked up when exploring a cave, something he liked to do. One of our classmates has a copy of the obituary, which will hopefully be posted soon.
Scott, people who were in contact with Dick around the time of his death confirm that it is a false rumor that he died of AIDS. Evidently he caught a virus, fell seriously ill from it and didn't recover.
Richard died from "valley fever" which is prevalent in the Phoenix, AZ, area where he lived. We were in touch up until the end, and he was always a loyal friend with a great sense of humor.
