Taught high school English at Crestline, OH, from 1964-1966, then at Chardon, OH after marrying Sally and taught there until 1994. In 1977 took second job as part time sportswriter and worked in that capacity until retiring from teaching in 1994. Most of those years were spent at the Ashtabula Star-Beacon, a newspaper whose circulation varied between 20,000 to 25,000. Became full-time sports writer after retiring from teaching and retired from writing sports in 2007. Still do a little free-lance writing, mostly football stories. Sally also taught (23-plus years with time out for raising children), mostly fifth grade, and retired a couple of years ago.
