In Memoriam

Marcia Jenne Metcalf (Hosking)

Marcia Metcalf Hosking (March 24, 1941~September 17, 2007)

Marcia Jenne Hosking, 65, passed away peacefully at her home in Pocatello, ID,  surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pulmonary hypertension.

Marcia was born in Susanville, CA to Wallace and Myrl Metcalf. Marcia's travels as the daughter of a naval officer took her to places throughout the states as well as Hawaii and Guam. She attended Fresno State College, graduating in 1964 with a degree in life sciences and a junior high teaching credential. While at Fresno State she met her future husband, Ronald Hosking of Modesto, CA.

Marcia and Ron married in 1965; Ron worked for FMC as project manager, and Marcia worked as a social worker until her children were born: Meredith in 1970, and Ross in 1971. After the children were grown, Marcia worked as a Girl Scout program director, YWCA director, and volunteer coordinator, development director and station manager for Idaho Public Television (KISU), before taking early retirement in 1999.

Over the years, Marcia belonged to and volunteered for a number of organizations such as AAUW and Rotary. She belonged to Chapter BJ of the PEO Sisterhood and served as its president for one term. She lent her skills as a grant writer to secure funds for education for women in the community.

Among the things Marcia enjoyed most was traveling with her husband and their little dog, Riley. Her favorite travel destinations were Hawaii and Myrtle Beach, SC. She also enjoyed spending time with family (in particular her grandson, Jude), decorating her home, listening to music, and reading.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Ron; their son, Ross (Cara) and son, Jude, of Boise; daughter, Meredith Obenchain (Phil) and stepdaughters, Kristin and Melissa, of Boise; her mother, Myrl, of San Jose, CA; sister, Meredith Watkins (Larry) and their son, Brett, of San Jose; her brother, Doug Metcalf (Sylvia Rios) and their children, Magdalena and Efren, Aromas, CA; Ron's sister, Dorothy Williams (Gerry) of Pebble Beach; and of course, Riley, her dog.

Marcia was a very giving person and instilled in her children a positive outlook and ability to embrace change as well as a love for travel. She will be very much missed.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, 801 Roeder Road, Suite 400, Silver Springs, MD 20910. (www.phassociation.org)
