Donna M Kerlin (Lane)

Donna Marie (Kerlin) Lane

Oct. 25, 1942 - Nov. 23, 2020

Donna Marie Lane, 78, of Sinking Valley, Altoona, died Monday at Hearthside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in State College. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel Williams Kerlin. On May 14, 2005, she married Robert Lane, who preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2014.

She is survived by a daughter, Myong-Hwa “Hiya” McKenna and her husband, Stephen, of Pine Grove Mills; and a granddaughter, Caitlin McKenna.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Myong-He Miles.

Donna earned a master’s degree from Cornell University. She was a dedicated teacher who spent over 40 years in a profession she was proud of, and ended her lifelong career as a science teacher at Altoona Area High School.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sinking Valley. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Bob, reading and crocheting.

Her heart went out to so many organizations in need and she donated regularly. A few are the Wounded Warrior Project, the ASPCA, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Police Benevolent Foundation. A donation in her name to your favorite charity would be a fitting tribute to her memory.

Arrangements are by Koch Funeral Home, State College.

Online condolences and signing of the guestbook may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com

I was very sorry to read about Donna Kerlin's death.  Growing up in Sinking Valley as we did, we went to school together at McKinley (then, an elementary school through 8th grade. I was in her class there in both 7th and 8th grade...and then, of course, in high school).  We passed her family home just yesterday on a lovely ride through the valley. I'd been wondering about her lately and couldn't find any information about her.  I was sorry to learn that her husband had also passed.  I knew him, too, growing up.  And that she died in a rehab facility.  She was such a lively person.  She would have hated being confined.  Rest in peace, Donna.
