Donald Eugene Smith, 77, Altoona, passed away Thursday evening at his home. Friends will be received from 4 until the 7 p.m. funeral service Monday, May 6, 2019, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery. Donald Eugene Smith, 77, Altoona, passed away Thursday evening at his home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harvey Smith Jr. and Lorraine (Stehley) Oswalt (Leroy). On July 9, 1962, he married Norma Lou Larkins in Winchester, Va.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Norma, surviving are a daughter, Dawn “DJ” Huff and husband, Drew, of Altoona; two grandchildren: Lindzie Miles and husband, Randy, and Tanner Huff, all of Altoona; a great-grandson, due in August; a sister, Twila Myers of Altoona; a brother, Gary Smith and wife, Darlene, of Bellwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Smith.
Donald was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962-66. He graduated Third Recruit Battalion-312, on May 3, 1962.
He retired from Unsco after 33 years as a truck driver/salesman and later drove a school van for the Altoona transportation students.
Donald was an avid hunter and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his hunting buddies and being outdoors. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
