In Memory

Adam Allen

Adam was a quiet soul who had a great smile and was a loyal friend.  He always gave 110% in everything he did.  Sometimes life does not seem fair and you departed to soon...you are missed

Adam moved to Colorado shortly after graduation. Within a year after moving, he took his own life.

Adam was a gentle soul and an incredibly gifted athlete. When he was in the sixth grade at Ridgecrest, he ran the mile in 6:09, setting the school record. In high school, he had a job at a theater, and, since he worked after school and at night, he never participated in sports. Had he run track or cross-country, he surely would have been one of the best on the team.

I remember sitting next to him in Dwight Huber's English class. Adam always had great ideas for stories, but his humble and quiet disposition, in some ways, prevented him from expressing his feelings. I think that was a metaphor for his life.

Shortly before he moved away, he took a bunch of us to a movie at the Showplace Theater. He had arranged with his manager for us all to get in for free. It was a kind, humble gesture to his friends, and certainly one that I will always remember. That was the last time I saw him.

I remember being home from college and seeing his name and picture on the obituary page in the Globe News. I went to his funeral and learned of the way he died. I'll always wonder what led him to the decision to take his own life.

I miss Adam and think of him often. He was a genuinely kind person, and I'm proud to have been his friend.

May he rest in peace.

I basically met Adam during the last semester of our senior year, during track. It's remarkable what he accomplished in a short time from an athletic standpoint. (I'm sure he was a role model for my little brother as well :)

But more impressive was the character of leadership he demonstrated, with caring, humor, courage and passion. He indeed made a lasting impression on me.
