Capt. Richard Lewis Smith, 33, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 15, 2006.

Obituary for Richard Lewis

Prayer vigil will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Jeff Conway officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Capt. Smith was raised in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1991. He married Kerry Kennedy in Amarillo on May 30, 1997. He graduated from West Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a Bachelor of Science in history. He received his Master of Science in financial planning and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University in 2004. He enlisted and served in the Marine Corps from Jan. 6, 1992, to Jan. 6, 1998, attaining the rank of sergeant. On Sept. 11, 2005, he returned to active duty as a captain in the Army JAG Corps. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Grace Karen Smith of Amarillo; two sons, Samuel Vernon Smith and Benjamin Douglas Smith, both of Amarillo; a brother, Robert V. Smith and wife, Amber, of Killeen; his father, Anthony V. Smith and wife, Diane, of Dallas; his mother, Jean C. Reeves of Amarillo; his father- and mother-in-law, Mike and Karen Kennedy of Amarillo; a brother- and sister-in-law, Doug and Nikki Kennedy of Denver; and a niece, Angellela Smith of Killeen. The family suggests memorials be to Olivia's Angels, in care of BSA Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O.
