Steve, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE approve the roll-up recipe...and all this time I'd thought it was just my own weird culinary obsession!

Glad you all had such a great time. I hope to make it next time. In the meantime it's really fun to look at the pics on this site. If there's a way to post a file of the slide show, it would be good to see that too at some point--but first, hope all of you who worked so hard to put this together are basking in the success of such a great event.

All my best,

Karen

TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TOCK

How do you get service around here??? Steve, where's the recipe????

(okay...this would be funny if he were actually reading these emails, but the poor guy is probably busy as can be posting pictures and working and here we are begging for rollups!!)

Okay...it's still funny. And I'm really, really hungry!

Wow, talk about a fast turnaround! Thanks for sending this, Arline. I'll have a look later tonight. Do you know if Tim has seen it yet? Hope we hear back from him soon. As far as I can see, he has the most dangerous job of all of us, and I hope he's around to keep doing it for a good long time.

Thanks again!

There's a copy in the mail to him along with a bunch of messages people wrote Saturday night, a pile of photographs and enough snacks to give him cavities in almost every tooth. Darn! That's what I forgot to send...a toothbrush! lol

It would be great to make some roll ups to send to Tim but.....

The waiting is killing me! I'm going away for the weekend and was hoping to make those famous rollups to bring along for everyone. Think Steve can be bribed?????

Holy Toledo, Batman! If I knew the kind of trouble I would stir up, I would never have said the word "rollup"!
You people are merciless! I know they're good, but my cardiologist would KILL me if he knew I used to indulge in stuff like that~jeesh! One little word and there's a whole bruhaha goin' on....but if you'd like I'll call my sister-in-law who just happens to be Steve's aunt and see if she'll use her familial influence with him....Mwahahahaha....(that's an evil laugh, btw)

Am I missing something? Can't the recipe be posted on the message forum as easily as all these comments about the recipe? Heidi, are you attempting to mail it to each person individually? You guys are going to be disappointed. It really is a very simple recipe. It's like a biscuit recipe. She didn't give me exact amounts of the brown sugar, butter and cinnamon because she made them a thousand times. It's a hit or miss to get them just the way she did in high school. But if someone does succeed, what a great fundraiser idea for our next reunion.

Of course it can, that's the funniest part. lol

What is up with Steve?!?!?! Man this business is taking longer than the construction of the reunion. This is nuts! I am drouling and gonna ruin my computer! I was thinking emotional blackmail myself...I have the face for it! A little evil smile...A secret prom picture or even a 7th grade picture...no one looked good in 7th grade...hehehehe... Steve...ah....the recipe???

I haven't thought about Roll-ups in years! But I used to make them every once in a while after high school. Here's what I did: Buy a box of Buisquick and follow directions on the back for making dough. Roll out the dough into a flat circle/oval with a rolling pin. Spread butter all over ( I use Smart Balance, better for the heart) Sprinkle with cinnamon and I sprinkle brown sugar as well, makes them nice and sweet. Then cut the circle into long strips maybe six. Then "roll-up" each strip into muffin-size, and place each one into a muffin tin, and bake at 350 for I think around 15 mins. depending how big they are. OK now I am inspired to do some baking this weekend with my kids! Have fun everyone!

Okay, everyone....all this talk about the roll up got me to thinking about something. Too bad we only have one message forum and not multiple topics so we can have different categories.

I want to share with you my family Christmas morning tradition. I would make this every weekend, but I don't even want to THINK of the calories. Therefore it is a Christmas morning treat for us...

Baked French Toast Casserole

1 loaf French bread (13 to 16 ounces)
8 large eggs
2 cups half-and-half
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Dash salt
Praline Topping, recipe follows
Maple syrup
Slice French bread into 20 slices, 1-inch each. (Use any extra bread for garlic toast or bread crumbs). Arrange slices in a generously buttered 9 by 13-inch flat baking dish in 2 rows, overlapping the slices. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and beat with a rotary beater or whisk until blended but not too bubbly. Pour mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly with the milk-egg mixture. Spoon some of the mixture in between the slices. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
The next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Spread Praline Topping evenly over the bread and bake for 40 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden. Serve with maple syrup.
Praline Topping:
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and blend well. Makes enough for Baked French Toast Casserole.

AHS anonymous? Try rollups anonymous! Here is the recipe for the rollups as Lisa sent it to me. And as far as the French toast casserole, yeah - its awesome! The recipe I use cubes the bread and it doesn't have the yummy sounding praline topping. Mike & I hosted the McIntyre family reunion this summer and I made that for Saturday morning - it was a HUGE hit! So yeah, give it a whirl - way easy to do and soooo yummy!

4 cups flour
6 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/3 cup milk
Sift dry ingredients 3-4 times. Cut in Crisco (shortening) and mix milk until dough is soft but does not stick to your fingers. Roll out rectangles 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough and cut into muffin pan size. Place in muffin pans and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. (if you make smaller rollups, bake less time.

And in Steve's defense, he sent me an e-mail - he wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the anouncement - he thought I was trying to do a group message

Janet, I expect a dozen roll ups at my house soon. Fresh baking powder please, lol. After we get back from Disney. I will make the coffee.

Arline, you know where I live so you can intercept Janet and steal a couple.
