First of all......GO BENGALS !!!!  We are all pulling for you Coach Mark Duffner!  and looking forward to seeing you at the reunion...as well as seeing everyone there.  It will be amazing and fun to see classmates some we knew and others we did not know as well.  Time has a way of sneaking up on us so I'm hoping everyone will be there that can possibly make it.  I have a special surprise in a song that I will perform that I know every woman from our class will love and the guys will like it probably as much.  It's the perfect reunion song...so hey let's have some good ole Annandale fun.....make your plans contact Maureen for deposit info and hotel info and let's have an A-Blast from the past !!!

I see John Butz is a guest member on our website. I am so to inform you that he passed away near the end of November last year. He had been ill for quite some time. He was a great guy. Always a friend in HS.

Have all older messages been archived? I asked a couple months ago, no response that I saw.

Ben,

I am not sure. As you know PAul Peters passed away. Paul was handling all of that stuff. Mike Gassman is in the process of learning the website and how everything works.

He is doing well at it but  it is slow going.

I assume everything is backed up.

Is there something you are looking for?

Ben -- As you know, last summer Paul Peters removed all but a handful of the most recent posts from the Message Forum.  I wish I knew why.  I know that at about that time, Paul was having some problems with the website; some users with security software on their computers were getting malware and phishing warnings when they tried to log on.  This was very frustrating to Paul, and he took a number of steps before eventually resolving the problem.  I don't know if removing the old posts was part of his solution.  But knowing Paul and having seen him in operation, I have to believe his removal of the posts was not a mistake or an accident.

That said, I have found an file in which most of the old posts have been archived.  The file is accessible only to the site administrator, who (for the time being, at least) is me.  The file is huge, and it's not easy to find things in it.  The posts are archived in a way that's mostly, but not always, chronological, and they're not organized by poster.  It appears that I may be able to restore some or all of the removed posts, but at this point I'm reluctant to try to do so for a number of reasons.  First, I don't know if restoring the posts might undo Paul's work in resolving the security warning problems of last summer.  Second, because the file is so large and unwieldy, I have no idea if restoring the posts will bring them back in their previous format, or if it might make it harder to make effective use of the website and the Message Forum.  Maybe I'm being too cautious, but we really need the website and the Message Forum to be operating effectively as we ramp up for our 50th reunion in June (the website will be the principal way we sign up for the reunion and communicate with each other), and I don't want to complicate things unnecessarily.

After the reunion, if there's demand to bring back the old posts I can try to restore them.  In the meantime, if there's something in particular in the removed posts you or anyone else may be looking for, let me know and I'll see if I can help.

Thanx for the answers! I didn't know Paul removed them.

Maybe just put the old messages in a stand alone file not merged into the formal site messaging face. Access could be a totally separate task?

Hi Atoms! Now is the time to get signed up for our 50th reunion if you have not already done so. On Saturday we will have a picnic at the school at 11:00 on the old girls hockey field. We will have our picture taken on the bleachers like we did with our cap and gowns, how cool is that. And we will get to tour the school.  The fee for the picnic is $10.00 per person.
Also, please send in your check to Maureen for the reunion. A big payment for the event is coming due soon. If you are staying at the Marriott make your reservations now too. Go to the home page for the info how to do so and get the great rate they have for our class. I am looking forward to seeing lots of you there!
Patti

Registration for our 50th reunion on June 24 and 25 is now open!  On the Home Page, you'll now see a link in the column on the left for "50th Reunion" (after "Message Forum" and before "Donate to the 50th Class Reunion"); follow that link for detailed information about what's planned and how to register and pay.  Because of the high cost of processing credit card charges made through the website, we're charging $160 per person to attend both the Friday night mixer and the Saturday night reception if you're paying by credit card, but we're reducing the cost to $150 per person if you pay by check.  Please make checks payable to "Annandale HIgh School 1971 50th Reunion" and mail them to Maureen Hackert at 6162 River Sound Circle, Southport, NC 28461.  There is a separate $10 per person charge for the picnic Saturday afternoon at AHS.  Rooms should still be available at the Falls Church Marriott Fairview Park at our special reduced block rate; there's a link to register for hotel rooms in the text on the Home Page.  If you're on the fence about attending, I hope you'll decide to come.  And if you're inclined to attend, I hope you'll register soon, since we have some interim payments to make to the Falls Church Fairview Park Marriott between now and the dates of the reunion.  I'm looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in June!

Hi All!
So excited about the upcoming reunion!!! Jane and I are hoping all you golfers will participate at the AHS golf outing!!!

Come on ladies!!! We need to show our fellow male classmates, that we can be formidable adversaries....or at the very least, we will have 'birdie juice'.

Jim, I will be bringing, Gary Vassallo, my significant other, to join us. Add him to the growing list of party, hardy golfing enthusiasts!!!

SEE YOU ALL IN JUNE!!!

Hi Folks:

Update on the Golf Outing.

We currently have 10 signed up.  Our goal is 16, so we can  (4) foursomes out there battling in fierce competition for what is most likely to be some of the most highly coveted awards of the 50th reunion.

This doesn't mean that we can't have more than 16 ... it would be awesome to have 20.

I know there are people who play golf, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, who have not signed up.  In the not too distant future, I want to reserve tee times.  At the last reunion, it was difficult to get reservations on Saturday mornings in the N. Virginia area.  I want to get something that is not too far away from the hotel.  Probably in the Manassas area.  I will contact several clubs that have good reviews, and are reasonably friendly to what we are trying to accomplish.

So please let me know if you would like to play Saturday morning.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all.

Update on the 50th Reunion Golf outing ... we now have 11.  One more and we have (3) foursomes.  It would be great if we could get at least (1) more foursome if not (2).

I know there are "closet" golfers out there who would love to come out and brave the elements and lose some golf balls with us...and have a lot of fun.

Just think about all of the lies we can tell Saturday evening at the reunion banquet !!!

And the SuperStars just keep rolling in for the AHS '71 World Golf Championship:

Here are the entries:

  1. Lauren Cobb Fiore
  2. Michael Fiore  (Lauren Cobb)
  3. Scott Braxton
  4. Jane Valentine (Olson)
  5. Mike Hexner
  6. Tom Poole
  7. Mike Guthrie
  8. Casey Hustvedt
  9. Greg Pickering (Peggy Harrison)
  10. Jim Burden
  11. Debbie Silver (Olson)
  12. Gary Vassallo (Debbie Olson)
  13. George Knox

(3) More participants and we will have (4) foursomes.  That would be awesome.  If we could get (5) foursomes I think it would equal our best turnout ever.

Looking forward to hearing from more folks.  This should be a lot of fun.

I am going to call a few more folks out regarding the golf outing.  Some of you have played before:

  • Fred Chandler
  • Jack Butler (I played with Jack at the 30th reunion.  Boy's got game)
  • Suzanne Mulen
  • Ben Marshall
  • Brad Horstman
  • Lacey roland
  • Pam Swim  (used to kick my butt on a regular basis)
  • Eric Garand
  • Becky Cashion & Vic

Join us.  As soon as I have a good idea of who is playing, I will try to come up with some type of tournament, or at least prizes for:

  • Closest to the pin
  • Longest Drive
  • Best Shot
  • Worst Shot
  • and maybe some type of team event if I can figure how to "handicap" it.

C'mon folks ... let's play some golf.

Hi Jim.  Thanks for thinking of me but we're not lugging those clubs on this trip.  Looks like you will have four groups real soon!  Looking forward to seeing everyone!  Be here before you know it!!

Hello All Golfers:

When you get a chance, please send me your Golf Handicap Index.  If you do not have an established handicap, please send me your best guess for your average score.

We plan on playing a "Captain's Choice" type of tournament.  In case some of the better golfers end up on the same team, the handicap system will level the scoring system.

Our very own Casey Hustvedt is going to figure all the numbers out to keep it as fair as possible.

Sorry we can't "handicap" the Long Drive Contest ... Debbie (Olson) Silver beat us up last time.

A note to prospective golfers:

We need (3) more players to have (4) foursomes.

I am going to need to reserve tee times in the next couple of weeks.

I know we had a number of folks play before.  C'mon back out and do it again.

Jim B.

We are moving in the right direction for the golf outing.

(2) more players and we have (4) foursomes.  That will be a good group.
