I have a few classmates that do not want to receive emails on updated profiles and upcoming birthdays. How do I stop them from receiving these emails?

They likely have selected these option under Profile Subscriptions, under their Member Functions. Have them go to the Profile Subscriptions page and click the Unsubscribe From All Profile button or deselect specific one manually from the right column.
